I like the natural sheesham variety of this set. BTW with quick purchase on the draw I managed to get the backorder discount. With quick decision making on the purchase yesterday I saved @ $34.99 on this set. I will ask them how much a bud rosewood version of this model would run me. If it isn't too ridiculous in pricing I may put down the payment for that one too. As I stated in an earlier one of your posts I'm not enamored with this black or future premiere of the red stained version of this chess set.
ChessBazaar's Romanian- Hungarian National Tournament Set Black/Boxwood Version
The Black & White set Mike is very classy looking. Have so much sheesham I almost rather go with this version but will wait on the crimson set. Are you getting the crimson set yourself Mike?
I would say CB hit a homerun on this set.

Great you saved an additional $30 by back ordering the set. Good luck with CB and pricing on a bud rosewood Romanian version. Yeah, we all have different tastes in woods/stains. I think the sheesham version is nice too but the Black stain is more appealing to me. And I think the crimson stain will be my most favorite of the versions

Hi Mike, yes I agree, very classy rich black stain. Yes, I'm getting the crimson stain when it comes out, which should be soon. Agreed, ChessBazaar hit a homerun with this reproduction.
I'm waiting for the Crimson version too...
Bawker, it seems like we all are waiting for the Crimson!
I see that they are offering 20% off on the set. Can you use any other discounts in addition to this 20%?

From what I can gather on the website an additional 15% can be applied but this may be coming to an end shortly (July 4th Holiday special discount) so I'd pull the trigger on the purchase soon if you're really interested in obtaining this black stained version. Good luck in your decision.
How long do you think the special discount will last before the price reverts to the $174.99 regular price?
I'm not sure but it wouldn't hurt to message them early Monday morning, very earlier to make sure of when it will expire. I'd say if you really want to grab it @ $120.99 right now go for it. If you feel you want to wait try to , if you occasionally burn the midnight oil, begin your messaging after midnight tonight they will be at work during their business hours over there in India just after midnight New York EST. I'm going to ask them tonight myself if this set can be made in Bud Rosewood and what will that set me back. Hopefully not an exorbitant amount of cash for the higher quality wood. I got a little lucky with the sheesham version when it went to backorder. I jumped on the backorder25 discount and got it down to $105 actually $104.99 but not a bad deal at all. All the best to you cghori.
salcero1: Let me know the cost for Bud Rosewood. Can you use any discount offers if you have them make it in Bud Rosewood? Thanks.
No they don't discount custom made orders although on one exception I had asked about a Dubrovnik 3.62" King bud rosewood to have the finals on the king and queen with contrasting finials as are the bishops in the set and the price point remained the same @ $225.59. You can pay a hefty amount for a custom set of any particular model depending on what you want done. The more changes the higher the pricing. I hope this Romanian-Hungarian set will be reasonably priced with the bud rosewood. Updates soon...
You can ask if they are planning a bud Rosewood version. If so, it might be better to wait so you can use one of their discount offers.
That's an option but I'm curious at what pricing they will give me, I will ask first if they are planning to make this set in ebony and bud rosewood in their future planning and what would be their projected price points? Thanks for the heads up on the suggestion.
I spoke with Sapna this morning and got the information on the bud rosewood version. It would run me $250 with a 50% down payment up front. Another rep gave me a very general "I don't know but Please stay tuned for our upcoming offers" type of response to my question of future plans to make the set in ebony and rosewood perhaps bringing down the price point a bit from the $250 custom order pricing. I'll just wait and inspect my bounty when it arrives. If it "floors" and impresses me enough I may just order the custom bud rosewood version of this set.
Salcero1: thanks for the info. I'm going to wait to see if they eventually offer the bud Rosewood version. A few months wait to save some money isn't going to kill me. They did the same thing with the GM Blitz set (coming out with the bud Rosewood version about 5 months later). If they do come out with the BR version of the Romanian set in the fall, then wait for their "Black Friday" sale where they offer massive discounts on everything. Might be able to pick it up at $175.
