Chessconnect: a free chrome extension for electronic chessboards

@Smartie74: Can you please check your setting for "White always on bottom" in the board settings. If that is checked, you get the behavior you described. I have added this to the list of known bugs. But for now the workaround would be to uncheck this setting.

@joernupbde I'm not sure if this has been asked already, but do you have any plans to add support for ChessKid?

ChessElk

Hello @joernupbde

Great job!
And this is my experience with chessconnect and DGT-Smartboard:
No problems with Win11 and with Mac OSX lates version.
With Linux there were minor problems with the USB port. But after the following command I can also play on this ancient computer.

The name of my device is "ttyACM0".
My solution: sudo chmod 777 /dev/ttyACM0 or sudo chmod o+rw /dev/ttyACM0
Greetings from Germany.

Currently not. But if there is demand for this, why not? I just had a quick look at it seems technically possible.

@joernupde: That sounds logical, and it was indeed the solution. After uncheck "White always on bottom" Everything went well.

The only thing I had was at one game. I was playing as black. White made the move " d4", On the board nothing happend, and also no move announcement. When I made the move "e5", the leds both on "e7" and on "e5" where blinking and the move was also done in the browser. Then when White made his 2nd move, the move was announcend and was reflected on the board by blinking leds. After this no issues anymore.

This is way better than playing with the Android app from Chess.com. As I have a lot of issues there at this moment.

Oh....and enjoy the drinks...tongue...Cheers!

Well my son would appreciate it if you ever find the time to implement ChessKid! No pressure though.

I've put it on the list of user requested features. 👍

KNAVFAR

joernupbde.....I wonder if it will ever be possible to solve chess puzzles and repeat the game via the electronic board. I myself have "Tabutronic" from the company Certabo from Italy and the board with chessconnect works perfectly without error. With both Lichess and Chess.com. Greetings and thank you very much for the wonderful application. I also hope that one day an application will really come to life, or through the phone with computer vision for playing on a completely ordinary board. Thanks again for your contribution to playing on electronic chessboards.

joernupbde

Thank you @KNAVFAR. Puzzles wouldn't actually be too hard to implement. If there's a demand for that, I will do it.

Hi there @joernupbde. I just got my DGT USB-C upgrade kit and I can finally play with Chessconnect. Works perfectly, however, just one issue. The move announcement doesn't account for two of the same pieces moving to a square. For example, when both rooks for Black can move to d8, it should specify Rad8 or Rfd8. Just a minor issue.

Thanks again for your efforts.

How to connect in Linux. I have:

  • Linux Mint 21.3
  • Installed Chessconnect
  • Installed Chrome
  • Chessnut Air

When ever I try to connect with BT I get this error:

This Browser does not support the Web Bluetooth API. Try setting the chrome flags chrome://flags/#enable-web-bluetooth , chrome://flags/#enable-web-bluetooth-new-permissions-backend , chrome://flags/#enable-experimental-web-platform-features

I dont have these settings in Chrome let alone changing the settings? Try to connect with USB doe not connect either. There is no response when using USB.

Hi - first off thanks for making this extension! It's awesome!

I've been able to play a number of games on my DGT smartboard. I've noticed that en passant captures don't seem to work on the board. Twice I've had situations where the move was not accepted on the board, but I could make it on the computer.

I am really glad to hear, that the USB-C upgrade works! The problem with the move ambiguity is fixed in upcoming version 3.3. Plus announcement of "check" and "mate" (in various languages). 😎

This should work. Can you send me the position, where the en passant did not work?

Which version of chrome are you running? Which connection method did you choose for USB? Cann you please enable debug messages in the Chessconnect options and tell me what messages you get, when trying to make a USB connection? There might be more than one message.

Hey @joernupbde

Any plans on adding USB support (on Android) for the Tabutronic Sentio in the future ? Now each time I connect (through ChessConnect) to Chess dotcom (not tried on Lichess yet) I get a message like "the browser does not support the Web Serial API" or something. I'm using Kiwi Browser (but Lemur Browser gives the same error as well). Thanks wink

That is a technical limitation of Kiwi that is hard (but not impossible) to circumvent. TabuTronic (who are one of the most ambitious supporters of Chessconnect!) is working actively on this. Currently they are in fact waiting for me on this. But I got my hands full with the 3.3 release.

Long story short: yes, that's most likely going to come.

Ceeffee29

is it possible to connect a dgt-board with blue-tooth connection ?
