@joernupbde - any thoughts forming based on the survey you put out? I’m very interested to know which features you’re thinking of working on next! It’s amazing what you are doing - what a gift to the community.

The two most requested feature from the survey was support for iOS. Followed by USB for Android. So my current plan is as follows:

  • iron out some minor issues with the current version. Maybe add a couple of features (Chess960, random starting positions, analysis board not properly working)
  • USB for Android as a stepping stone towards...
  • ...iOS.
  • And then probably chessable and chesskids

Oh, my, what an ambitious list.

You are truly remarkable, this product has gone from a little extension to use with an e-board to a great piece of software that allows us to use our stuff easily, smoothly, and reliably.

Hi, would anyone be so kind to list a chomebook or two where this extension works?

I just bought a HP Chromebook 11 G6 and to my surprise, the Chrome browser in there does not support this Chrome extension, the Extension does not say what version of Chrome it needs at a minimum, older versions of the Extension are not available to try on my new Chromebook.. and basically I am left with a brick that I have to return :-)

Thanks for any help, again which is a Chromebook that works with the Chessconnect extension? thank you

joernupbde

Did you try updating your ChromeOS to the latest version? I bought a really cheap Acer ChromeBook 3.14 which initially came with a fairly old version of ChromeOS. After updating to ChromeOS version 122 everything worked fine.

GoinUpTheCountry

Thank you so much for your reply!

It shows that is it the latest version, does not give an Update option..

I am looking to buy another chromebook, just wanting to check this time.. what should I look for before I buy and find out if it works :-)

Thanks for mentioning the Acer one, I will look for it. "Acer ChromeBook 3.14" Thanks again

Found this on Amazon.ca , "Acer Chromebook 314"

I hope this is it.. ?

Brand Acer
Model name C933-C0FR
Screen size 11.6 Inches
Colour Black
CPU model Celeron N4000
RAM memory installed size 4 GB

Sounds interesting! I have always been looking for convenient ways to play chess online. I'd be happy to try this extension and see how easy it is to use. Thanks for the recommendation!

I sent you a PM with a link to my Chromebook.

I do not really know the minimum version required for running Chessconnect. Did anybody got it to run on ChromeOS earlier than 122?

What version does your HP Chromebook run on?

GoinUpTheCountry

Thank you , my ChromeOS was 102 and did not let me update..

I am not seeing the PM yet.. thank you

GoinUpTheCountry

Update, I have ordered Acer Chromebook 314, returned the HP, and hope this Acer will work with the Chessconnect extention. I will let everyone know tomorrow. Thanks much for your time.

It's a little bit scary having come from "I've writte this piece of software, why not put it in the web store" to "people buy hardware just to run you software on". 🫣

Pokervane

@joernupbde Is it normal to have to reconnect via Bluetooth with every chess.com page reload? I have had this behavior on both Chrome/Windows and KiwiAndroid. I do not have this problem when connecting via USB on Windows.

joernupbde

@Pokervane: Yes, that is absolutely normal. It is a bug in the web bluetooth API. I have tried very hard to find a workaround. Unsuccessfully as you see. We just have to wait until it is fixed. 😞

I have purchased a Galaxy Tab S7+ because @vitualis showed it working with the extension and it is a great littler tablet to use with Chessconnect.

I purchased the Chessnut Pro with premium pieces (and just came in today), despite having the Air, the Pegasus, the eOne and the Evo to play on, so I can sit out in the living room or dining room with a full size board and play online.

Believe it or not, the chessnut pro it's worth it a couple hundred more just to play it properly online. Their app lags behind, it only connects over bluetooth and that is a hit and miss. A cable connection is what is needed, and they don't do it.

Yes, same here. I simply wanted the pro to use a wired connection to something. Cheers
