Chessconnect: a free chrome extension for electronic chessboards
Thank you for your feedback
@Rsava, indeed under lichess the "E-Boards Chess Club" team fulfills this unifying role, thank you for this discovery.
In fact it's not necessarily for playing tournaments because that takes up a lot of time.
On the other hand, under lichess, an interesting option, online players are identified by a green dot
it is then possible to challenge each other for a game.
I go to the end of my delirium or dream,
@jörn:
could your extension visualize the players online in a team for example "E-Boards Chess Club" and offer them a challenge?
It’s up to you to measure the technical difficulty and interest?
Have a good evening or day depending on where we are on this little blue planet.
===========================
@jörn :

I think, that's a little bit outside the scope of my extension. The underlying philosophy is more like "do one thing and do it well".
The "..do it well part" currently troubles me on ChromeOS. Since update 124 from Google Bluetooth LE more or less stopped working completely. Or is there anybody here with a Chromebook running ChromeOS 124 who can still use a Chessnutboard with Chessconnect?

Has anyone had success with this - connecting DGT bluetooth to MacBook ? Im struggling
the Mac can connect to the DGT board on bluetooth ( the device was seen and added and connects )
I set chessconnect to use DGT eboard.
the board cannot be connected to in Lichess or Chess.com.
I tried LiveChess, which sees the board/bluetooth com port but fails to open it - so the board cannot be reached with the same outcome.
everything is updated/latest.
works fine in windows 11.
Is there something I am missing on the mac ?
( MacBook Pro, beast config 2019 running latest updated OS )

@andyetanotherthing: You could try the public beta. Maybe that one works better.

Short info: the Bluetooth/Chromebook problem has been solved. I disabled #bluetooth-use-floss and now everything is working nicely again.

@joernupbde:
Just a heads up - I received a review unit of the Chessnut GO today and it seems that Chessconnect doesn't see the board. The GO seems to otherwise work the same as the Air/PRO. If you've a contact at Chessnut, it'll be good to notify them to see what's changed.

Vitualis - when and where do you plan to review the Go? Has chessnut indicated the price point yet?
https://www.chess.com/blog/vitualis/chessnut-go-arrived-review-coming-soon
I'll review it over the next couple of weeks.
Chessnut hasn't confirmed the price yet. My guess is that it'll be priced at or near that of the Chessnut Air.

As a result of the discussion in this thread, I have developed a Chrome extension that allows owners of Chessnut smartboards to play live tournaments on chess.com.
The extension is called Chessconnect (for which I apologize. I just could not come up with a better name) and is available for free in the Chrome web store.
It was initially developed just for myself because I wanted to play live tournament so badly. Since then it has grown somewhat of a user base and that is why I am opening this thread as a central point for topics referring to Chessconnect.
The software is fully functional but still a little rough around the edges. If you want to give it a try, please read the (somewhat lengthy) description in the webstore. It contains some helpful tips.
I received a lot of helpful suggestions from my users that helped me improve the extension and make it more fun to play with. So, if you are using it or willing to give it a try, I would be more then happy to read your feedback here in this thread. If possible, I will try too incorporate you feedback and ideas into new releases.
Chessconnect started as and will always remain a community effort. Meaning, it will always remain free.
Finally, I would like to thank chess.com user @Gallinarius for his ideas and his testing effort during the initial phase of this project. The tool would not exist without his support.
Happy fair games,
Jörn
Does it also works for regular games? (I'm playing on a chessnut air)

Yes, it definitely works with regular games on a Chessnut Air!
Evidence:
This game was played on my Chessnut Air connected to chess.com via the Edge browser with the Chessconnect extension, on a Surface Laptop 3: https://www.chess.com/blog/vitualis/chessnut-air-beachside-holiday-at-bundeena-travel-chess

Nice! Only a bit afraid that it will result in a restricted account after some weeks, which I had after playing some weeks with the chessnut app (without problems)

I think the anti-cheating system on chess.com might have speculatively flagged the Chessnut app click responses as a potential bot (which I suppose, it kind of is). I'm not sure if it's still a problem. I've not seen any feedback from people using Chessconnect with this experience.

@Timche88: Chessconnect has almost 1500 users and I am not aware of any of them having trouble with cheat detection. chess.com is aware of Chessconnect and although it is not officially recognized it is tolerated. I have requested their official blessing but did not receive final answer yet.

Surely it's in their best interests to support you and your great work Jörn? Fingers crossed they do.

Really cool Jorn! Will give it a try later this week then! Thanks!
Oh, I am in the e-board club he started (he found me in the DGT club here).
Once I am done with the tournaments I am playing in here I will play exclusively over there, especially after yesterday's debacle of a game I played. A "Chessconnect-ed" club over there would be great, if someone is so inclined. I might even join one here, but I won't play here, only over there.
Just as an FYI for people - user Datasmith over there organizes a somewhat regular tournament of 60|30 games with a decent turnout of regulars. 18 players in the latest. Meet in the club room every Thursday (19:00 ET) to play, if games need to be rescheduled it is usually easy to do. I have rescheduled 4 of the 5 games so far. A couple of us use our e-boards.
Why don't you like playing here?
