Chessconnect: a free chrome extension for electronic chessboards

That would theoretically be possible. But I would have to use a complete different way for this. If there is enough demand, I might one day implement that, too.

Hi joernupbde

Is there any possibility to add DGT Pegasus board ?

joernupbde

I don't know. If anybody knows a contact at DGT whom I might approach, I would certainly try. The board manufacturers I have worked with so far have all been extremely supportive. (i.e. Chessnut, Millenium, Certabo, Tabutronic, and House of Staunton).

...and by the way: release 3 is waiting for approval by google. And it's a _huge_ update this time! 😊

joernupbde

Today is the day: Chessconnect version 3 is officially out! With it comes lichess capability, USB for Chessnut (Millenium is in the pipe), Certabo boards, TabuTronic Cerno boards and tons of minor adjust. Also a slight change in color scheme.

Plus: I know got a Chessconnect website ad chessconnect.de 🥳 There is a lot of chessconnect related information over there.

And I added a support section to the web store.

Version 3 underwent quite a bit of beta testing but there's always potential for undiscovered bugs. Should you find one, please let me know and I will try to fix it as soon as possible.

Such great work! I've bought you another tea!

Please, everybody who uses and enjoys Jorn's software, support him so he remains productive!! 😝 To be frank, I don't have great faith in Chessnut's longer term ability to maintain their app, especially if they move down new product lines and create newer e-boards in the coming years. This project is what's going to ensure our boards will remain functional in the long term!

Does this extension work on any browsers for the iPhone? If not, could it at some point in the future? Thanks!

Rsava

I am looking to get an inexpensive Chromebook (as @vitualis has shown Chrome on one works with this extension) to kind of make a "travel kit" for my Air to take with me on business trips.

It will be the only thing I use the Chromebook for (as my work is a Windows house and I need to use Windows laptops for work). So only using

Anyone have a good suggestion for this implementation. Not sure what processing power I would need for just playing chess games with the ChessConnect extension.

Hi I think I may be of help. First, I do know of a few people at the DGT support, and I just sent them a request to introduce you guys each other, if they're interested in cooperating to implement support for the DGT boards. I do own a DGT e-board as well (not Pegasus or Centaur, but the wooden USB-C e-board), so I'm interested as well.
Second, you may in the meantime have a look at these sites, where you can find some resources on on interfacing with the DGT boards:

I am currently looking into this. Not yet sure, if its possible, though.

It does work on Kiwi and it is reported to work on Edge. But the main platform is likely to remain chrome. But hey, never say never, right?

The connection is dropping half way though a game, it will Register my opponents move but when I make my move the from and to leds light up on my board but the move doesn't Register in Chess.com. so I manually input it thorough the website and the opponents response the shows on the board.

I have experienced this too, but I think it's simply because the pieces aren't all in the right place. It seems like the move isn't registering, but really it's because the software thinks the board isn't set up correctly and therefore does not input the move.

Often the LEDs indicating that a piece is off are hidden behind or beneath pieces. I adjust the pieces and things work smoothly again.

I don't think this is a software issue, but it might be. I have seen other people express a desire for more LEDs per square than the Chessnut Air has - one per square is easily hidden from view.

I just submitted version 3.16 to the web store which brings USB support for Millennium boards. 😎

Hi, I have a question about the Millennium King Performance - is the Chesslink required or can you connect the board directly to the computer with usb cable and then use the extension??

According to my information from Millennium, you do need the Chesslink.

Hello @joernupbde, I have some news for you from DGT. I'm switching to writing you directly a private message.

This is amazing progress! Maybe we'll see a renaissance in eboard use for online games!
