Hi

I have always found ChessX as a very useful learning tool.

Sadly, today I just cannot get it to open. I have uninstalled & reinstalled without luck.

Anyone have any ideas please?

Thanks, Graham

Hey guy -

What happens when you try to run Chess-X? Do you get any error messages?

Have you made any changes to your computer since you last successfully ran Chess-X? If you've installed other programs, they might have replaced dll files used by Chess-X.

What OS are you using? If Windows, are you running the 32-bit or 64-bit Chess-X?

What version of Chess-X are you running? (I'm not sure this matters; There's a ver 1.4.6 bug fix out, but I'm still using ver 1.4.4. Regardless, you'd think the program would at least start.)

Hi

Thanks for the response. When I try to run it, a small icon opens in the system tray, and when I click on it,it says Clipboard-ChessX.

No changes to my pc that I can think of - I run Windows 10, and windows did a large update recently. I run (or am trying to run) the 64 bit version of ChessX

And I now have the latest version of Chess-X, as to try and fix it, I uninstalled my version and downloaded the latest version from their website

Thanks, Graham

Did you try double-clicking on that little icon in your system tray? It almost sounds like it's starting up in minimize mode. If you can figure out how to get it out of minimize mode, your problem might be solved.

You might also try to double-click directly on the executable file, bypassing the desktop icon. (That is, C:\Program Files\ChessX\chessx.exe). That might not make any difference, but it's worth a try.

It's possible that the Windows update broke something, idk.

Hi

Thanks for post

When I double click on the little icon, nothing happens. When I float mouse over it, it increases to a small white box with "Cilpboard-ChessX2 at the top.

And yes, I've also tried bypassing the desktop shortcut icon by going direct to exe file, but it has the same result.

Sorry

"Cilpboard-ChessX2 should have read "Cilpboard-ChessX"

I don't know if this will help, but here's an open bug report that you might want to follow. It's very similar to your problem.

https://sourceforge.net/p/chessx/bugs/249/

Thanks EscherechcsE.

That is very similar - I have posted on their forum, and hopefully someone will have the answer

SOLVED!

In case anyone has same problem, the fix is simple. The post from EscherechcsE. gave me something to think about.

When the icon in system tray was "in focus", I pressed "alt and space bar " and a window opens giving the option to maximise - I wasn't aware of that facility. I maximised it, and all is ow working fine!

Simple!

Thanks for your postings, I would never have sorted it on my own

Thanks guys! I have not been able to run ChessX for a couple days, tried uninstalling and reinstalling and finally Googling it...which led to this thread. Big relief as I love ChessX.

Those databases all promote able to handle super large data/games sizes, till it's done. Then most start to act super slow, even slower than a criple turle. ChessX, Scid vs PC, all of them. I have some chess/games databases with 10M+ otb games, and when click on no matter what in Chessx, the respond will happen in "maybe" 2 minutes. So slow they all become. So then WHY they promote able to handle super large databases anyway??
