Beauty of a set. This set have the new weighting to prevent cracks?  That board is gorgeous too.  I believe the board and box are made in Italy, just exquisite.  I know my solid mahogany chess box is unreal.  I do believe it is the only solid mahogany chess box made.

my plastic dubrovnik cost me like 20 quid and looks better than this overpriced indian mass produced 'luxury' set, so go figure...

I'm sure in your eyes it does.

Just because you think it is too expensive to buy does not think all of us do.

You also have no idea what you are talking about, Official Staunton offers some of the most beautiful sets out there and this one looks absolutely stunning.

500 quid for a set with already worn out base felts? come on man, I worded my post clearly. taste is subjective, but at least basic quality control should be in place for such a price.

And you have obviously never had a set from OS (or are jealous of those that can afford them).

Have a nice day.

can you even read?

if so, have a look at those pictures; even the dgt timeless pieces have nicer felts than this set. i'm not saying this company can't produce beautiful sets; once again, that's subjective. but paying 500 quid for something that so obviously was never quality controlled is a sick joke.

btw, i had a set from OS, my unlce bought me the fischer spassky set... had to send it back because of 2 cracks, bad felts and uneven stain with the white (!) pieces. so much about my jealousy...

edit: chess.com really has to do something about this obvious shilling.

Doubtful you have ever owned one. Carl stands behind his products and would bend over backwards to fix any quality issues you may have had if you actually had one of his sets.

Thanks for playing.

(And if you knew anything about the others who have posted here, they are not shills for anyone. But I would not expect you to know anything about that or even care. You are just here to malign a good company that makes a quality product that you cannot afford so you feel justified in attacking them.)

Another Troll bites the dust!

Hey Mike, thanks for posting that set. At first I thought it was just the pieces but now I see it is pieces, board, and box.

That does make it a nice deal and I may need to think about adding it to my collection.

Love the look of it and love the board.

You're welcome Richard, thanks for taking a stand against this troll, but enough is enough! Yeah, the 3 piece combo is beautiful and would be hard to pass up.

The pre-order price is listed at 599, not 499.  Is that correct?

A couple of weeks ago, Official Staunton had a 20% off sale.  And, earlier, I heard they had a 30% off sale.  When do they have their sales?

What an ugly set
Avatar of steverjar

Thanks, GM-4U.  I paid 599, but received their 45% summer discount.  Maybe I could have done better, but my price seemed good.  Best,  Steve

Hi Steve

It's just the bishop is hideously non-Staunton.
