I just received the "Chess Tactics for Beginners" CD from Convecta. It is a bit easier than Ct-Art which I was not quite ready for, even though I downloaded the demo.It looks a lot like CT-Art.

This CD is wonderful. Starts you at the beginning, and then moves up. I love it. And I think it will prepare me for their wonderful program, CT-Art.

Now I have a question. (I know. I seem to always have questions.) With the CD came a manual and it mentioned several of their other courses. But one caught my  eye. It is "Strategy 2.0." I can't find a review of it anywhere. But strategy training is what I think I really need.

Do any of you know about Strategy 2.0? Anyone used it or heard about it?

I'm finding that I love computer training software even more than my books.

I'm almost willing to fork over the $30 for this program just on faith because I think it will be fun and helpful. But I did want to ask you all what you know or have heard or think about it before I order it.

Interface looks just like CT-ART. It basically teaches you different strategic concepts through the use of annotated games. It has a practice and test facility as well.

Topics covered:

  • Advantage in Development
  • Advantage in Space
  • Attack on the King
  • Attack on the Queenside
  • Defense and Counterattack
  • Weak Square
  • Open Files and Diagonals
  • Pawn Structure
  • Central Squares
  • Disposition of Pieces
  • Exchange
  • Positional Sacrifice
  • Isolated Queen's Pawn
  • Hanging Pawns
  • Prevention
  • The Rule of Two Weaknesses
  • Plan

A follow on to this is their Encyclopedia of the Middlegame series, which tackles the middlegame ideas of different opening systems.

Thank you, snits.

That's the first review I have seen, and somehow from the link you sent me I was able to download a Strategy 2.0 Demo.

Looks like a great program. I wonder what the difference in the full  program and the demo is. Do you know?

CT-Art's Demo has been fine, no strings attached. Is this Demo free to keep?

Do you own many Convecta programs?

Finding this demo has made my day!

There are several downloads at Convekta's site. "Opening Blunders," end game moves, and others. I think there are about 6 free downloads, including, Rybka (sp?) Acquarium (www.chessreviews.com).

Take a look and tell me what you think.
