I really like this idea. I'm thinking about a wall mounted display cabinet and may nic some from your table design (: your table made out of walnut will look superb. Please post progress photos.
Designing a chessboard/chess sets storage furniture - feedback appreciated!
I had problems with organizing my sets and boards, especially with limited space. I ended up redoing my setup using some pieces from sicotas dressers because their drawers are deep and smooth-sliding, and they fit most of my stored boards flat. I just added some felt lining to prevent scratches. The vertical space really helped keep my collection more organized without looking cluttered.
Hello again everyone, I’m remodeling my apartment and as one of the updates I’m having a dedicated chess table built out of walnut (55mm squares, plenty of space on the sides for books/drinks/etc).
I’m a functional minimalist, so I like having just the things I like and use, and donate/sell the rest. However, I like having dedicated storage for what I do possess, so I came up with a chess storage cabinet. It will be made of walnut, and has to store the following:
I designed the following in a 3d sketch software, the basic design is that of a 3 drawer nightstand, with a side compartment to hold two chessboards. The side has a central divider that is long enough to accommodate anything from an 18” to a 24” board, and will be felted in such a manner to keep the board centered, with airflow all around to prevent warping.
The sketch doesn’t show the drawers or side swinging door, for simplicity - it is 20” wide, 26” long and 26” tall, with each drawer being 6” deep, 12” wide, and 24” long. Also not shown are the square legs for this furniture, which will raise the height to 28” (2” square legs).
Thoughts? Ideas? Should I divide the the upper drawer in two, or add an internal divider? Anything that I’m missing?
