DGT 2500: the new official FIDE chess clock

is dgt2010 still fide official
As far as i know a lot of official chess games are played on boards, which are not digital. So, therefore you don´t need a clock like Dgt 3000. I would guess the majority of rated games in the world are not played on digital boards, so why shouldn´t Dgt 2010/2500 be an official Fide clock? If you have digital boards, you connect f.ex. Dgt 3000 to those boards. There was a big open in my hometown recently, a lot of titled players and only part of the boards were digital, 44, i think, out of 200 boards. Most clocks were Dgt 2010, if i remember correctly (some non digital boards had a Dgt 3000 with them)

See section 5.4 on page 8. You can now add the new 2500 to the list. The 2010 is still on it.

What are your thoughts?
Should be pink.....Joking! Looks awesome.

#86 no my concern was that with the dgt 2010 having a successor it might be rendered obsolete
but its fine so great

For those interested, I made a YouTube video review and comparison of this great new chess clock the DGT 2500. I posted the video on my auxiliary youtube channel, because my main one is a cooking channel. For those that take time to watch, I thank you.
Well done.

Well done on the you-tube review. With that review, they should have sent you a comped one because your video will surely sell more of the DGT 2500. The best deal is to wait again till HOS/USCF/CHESSCOM/WHOLESALE CHESS runs another 2o% off anything. I like the fact that it shows the hours and seconds at the same time. The ZMF series as far as I know does not.

Thank you for your kind words. That channel isn’t big enough to receive comp merchandise yet. However on my cooking channel I get free stuff to promote all the time. Barbecue grills and smokers, seasonings and sauces, meats and fish, thermometers, cast iron pans, etc. I turn down a lot of it too.
Maybe, if I promote that Big Lew Too channel with a lot of chess stuff maybe folks will send comp merch. Even so, I already have five chess sets that I use regularly and several others that stay in the closet. So I don’t need to do chess equipment reviews. That was the first video I’ve put on that little channel in two and half years.
I do appreciate your kind words and encouragement. Thank you it made this old man smile, and I don’t have a lot to smile about now days.
I do intend to use that channel for more non-cooking content, now that I’m not so melancholy, which will include chess, and checkers, and cruiser bikes, and disc golf, and gardening and run on sentences, and Oxford commas, and what ever else I want to do.
During the Quarantine time I also started a Spanish language learning channel. But I quit it too, after the two hurricanes destroyed my home and my wife died. It’s probably time to start it up again too.
Once again, thank you for the encouraging comment. It means more than you will ever know.

Very sorry about your wife passing and your home getting destroyed. I can't imagine..........
Yes, I checked out and subscribed to the cooking channel. I love to BBQ! Also subscribed to your chess channel.
Hope to see more chess reviews on your chess channel.

What the what

Hi SerynasGambit, I watched the video link he has of the review for the DGT 2500. BigLew has been talking about the DGT 2500 for the last couple of pages leading up to the review.

Oh alright

In researching time control methods which involve transitions from one period to another, or one stage to another, I came across this interesting 12 year old forum thread.
https://www.chesschat.org/showthread.php?11462-Why-not-add-time-after-40-moves
The above discussion is fascinating because it is amongst FIDE trained/approved tournament arbiters.
Apparently there had been (at that time 12 years ago) a hotly contested debate between which method to use when transitioning from one period of a game to the next. For example, if a multi-stage time control is:
90 minutes first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes next 20 moves
There were two contested ways to accomplish this:
Method A: when each player separately makes their 40th move, the next 30 minutes is added to their time which remains from the first 40 minutes
Method B: when either player first reaches 0 time on their clock, regardless of how many moves have been made, the next 30 minutes is added to both players clocks
In the link I posted above, you can see that these FIDE arbiters were very passionate on both sides of the debate, both sides giving good arguments and reasons for their stance. All seemed to agree that FIDE made the issue muddy by “seeming” to not clarify the matter, or take an official stand
Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems most DGT clocks, until recently, have employed/advocated method B, but the recently released DGT 2500 has the capability to use BOTH methods.
It seems that the “debate” is still ongoing, and with enough advocates taking each side, DGT decided to make a clock which EASILY offers both methods.
This would be another reason to purchase the DGT 2500, in addition to all the great reasons outlined previously in this thread
The fact that the model is designated '2500' denotes a downgrade in functionality from the 3000 (i.e. no DGT board connectivity). So it would be suitable for players and clubs which aren't equipped with DGT boards. The $20 price difference would appeal as well.
(I own a 3000, but if this model was available at the time I'd definitely have considered purchasing it instead.)
