Original Centaur left, FIDES World Chess set right

I have also discovered that the FIDES style plastic pieces from the World Chess starter set also seem to work well out of the box with little mod.

Now that's a suitable upgrade.

I used this from Amazon thinking that 1” dots would cover all the base of my pawns and most of the base of the major pieces. King 4.0”.  Works great. I tried dots that were .75” before but those didn’t work.

You dont have to remove original black tape on bottom. Just add new foil on it.

I cut out the aluminum lids that are used for food trays. I attached these to the base with double-sided adesive tape.

These wooden pieces are Staunton 5 (King: 90mm)
It works perfectly and the effect is much better than the original pieces.

Let me revive this thread :-)

I modded DGT Centaur to be able to export PGN files. Works like a charm. The only gripe I have the original pieces are sort of slippery (or the surface seems so).

So I would love to buy a decent chess pieces and put (glue) some metal / foil stickers. Once I saw a picture with a pretty small foil rings. This way the felt make it less slippery.

I used this stuff - 3M adhesive conductive fabric - https://www.amazon.com/woiron-Conductive-Shielding-Electrical-Interference/dp/B0C4P3KDD3

It is very thin and has a slightly tacky surface texture. The base of my pieces were (fake) leather rather than felt, and I adhered the 3M conductive fabric on the leather. It works brilliantly, and the pieces are not slippery at all!

I solved the issue in the simplest way:

I just used artificial leather (selfadhesive) and for pawns, which are lighter I used a plaster. Now the pieces got better friction and the whole chess experience is much better.
