DGT plastic pieces

I saw the set on Amazon and bought it as it was only £22. The choice of plastic sets isn’t great in the UK. I really like them. I think I prefer my dark pieces to be black.

I think I prefer them to my wooden Staunton boxwood and walnut set. Although the plastic pieces would look better on a bigger board.

Just going through a game, using Peggy as a variation board.

Anyone else find they have a preference for cheaper boards/sets?

Beautiful photography if you have captured this

Nice photo and I really like the knights in both sets, but especially the one on the left. It almost feels to me like it's inspired by a BCE blitz knight!

Your wooden set looks very very nice happy.png

I imagine a cozy couch, a cup of coffee, a book on the table and classic music in the back. Studying an old master game and reading it's side story from the book.

Hey!

The wooden set is in the box. The pieces on the boards are all plastic. What a gorgeous imagination you have ;o)

Thanks re the photography. I took it on my iPhone. I do have a nice camera and some great lenses and do know a little bit about photography. Some of my best images were taken on the iPhone. Funny that! Some of my best paintings have been done in Paint. You know that rubbish program in windows ;o)

Both boards have the same position, for a second, I thought it was the exact position we play in daily chess happy.png

I knew it, you lied to me.. you knew about the paint, you were using it all over the place grin.png

btw the hinges.. of that piece box. They look all different than normal designes. And the locking mechanism. Nice details.

I really like the DGT pieces for the Centaur, too I feel that they are classic in design and balanced in height. I will probably get a set for regular play without the Centaur board. I have a vinyl rollup board with gray squares that they would look nice with.

Hi guys 👋
I also really like the DGT plastic pieces and have a set of the 84mm and 94mm. They were quite cheap about £15 for the set and they look and feel great to play with. The only drawback is they don’t include two queens.

Hello there!

There is a queen expansion pack, apparently. It's probably as cheap to buy a new set. There should be 2 queens really, that's just tight. The electronic plastic sets come with two queens. I've just got a Smartboard. The plastic pieces are the same as the non electronic ones, except that the felt is thicker on the electronic pieces.

The weight is just right too, for me anyway.

Hi Kevin,

Yeah, I've seen them sell the extra queens in pack of 10..which is a bit overkill for me, although I've not looked very hard tbh.  Yes you're right the electronic version does include 2 queens.  Congrats on your smart board, I bet it is great!

Here is a pic of my two DGT sets.  The one on the right is from the DGT 'Blue Box' which cost about £20 but included the fold up cardboard board, it is just the right size to play with my kids.

Hi, they're good sets.  Nice pic, those green and white boards look good.

The smart board is good. I do like the 55mm squares. My wooden board has 50mm squares, it is a bit cramped/crowded looking. Some people like that though.

Im glad you and the kids enjoy playing.

These pieces are long enough but also too thin. Bases should be larger, a wind can tip these over..

a rook should stand firm and hold his ground. rooks are important. a rook should give confidence to allies and fear to the enemy
