DGT Walnut non-e - a question for materials

I think I'm really wrong. I reviewed the board with the flashlight and took some photos. Place the flashlight in such a way that its light shines through the varnish at an angle and shows imperfections in the joints of the veneer squares. Apparently the coating is really great and I did not expect such a finish.

I love the size and color of this board, but the plastic ... it's sad.
PS 50mm square will be small for these pieces. It seems to me.

In our stores we come across boards of Polish and Russian production from wood veneer in the range of $ 50-100. It is difficult to find a board with a square size of 55-57mm. Mostly 50mm square

DGT boards are wood veneer. The finish is so smooth and perfect, it may seem like plastic. If you look at the wood veneer surface with a jewelers loupe you will see the wood grain. Even the thin dark brown strip between the squares and border is wood veneer. Not painted, printed or plastic. You are not the first person to believe the boards to be printed or plastic.

at first I also thought it was the perfect wood veneer finish. But I draw your attention to the fact that the ends of the board, which are processed with wood veneer, have a different texture.
Looking at the joints of the squares, I saw that it was pain, because the veneer cannot be cut with a non-ideal straight line, because in this case, there will be a gap.
I'll try to show it in the photo
I got the impression that this is a simplified replica of a popular expensive board. I will ask a question in support of DGT, see what they answer

I was a little foolish :)) instead of a new message I updated the previous one :)))
all the same, I will leave a photo of this set here.

I don't have a DGT e or non-e board but based upon your description maybe the veneer was coated with polyurethane. My JK Creative board was coated with poly and it feels like plastic even though it is solid wood. It almost feels like my Ultimate Chess pieces. My CWW and Drueke boards feel like wood. I can feel the grain when I run my fingers over the boards.

Of course photos can be misleading and only you know the look and feel in real life but I reckon it looks good. 👍
Veneer is cheaper but for my opinion prettier. All solid wood is very much more expensive but more durable and would last for several decades.

at the end of the topic, today came the answer from DGT:
"Our wooden chess boards are made from veneer. It looks so good because it has been finished with a special varnish what gives you the thought that it may be plastic, but it’s not."

Nice combo! Which set is that? (E.g. do you have a name, manufacturer, URL, or king height?)
thanks!
yes, of course I can give a link to this set, all the data is there. A little later, I will try to give a small overview of this set and the work of the store, I am very pleased with these pieces, but not everything was perfect.
