Drueke Chess Set

I got a great redbox drueke no 23 set off eBay. It’s awesome, but my question is what board was meant for this set? Seems like they were made with an early type of plastic (Bakelite?)
I find it interesting that so many old chess sets were sold as piece sets without a board. Why was this so common?

The best way to find a correct board size for pieces. Is that the base of the King is around 75% - 80% of the square size.

Is this the type of Drueke set with the octagonal bases? Approximately 3” kings?

They are 2.5inch kings. I found a drueke board with 1.5 inch squares. They seem to fit nicely! Great set!! Thanks for the tip.
