I picked this up at a garage sales a few years ago and came across this again when I was cleaning out the attic and opened up the moving box...   Thoughts/opinion greatly appreciated!!! evil.pngevil.pnggrin.png  Seller wanted $150 originally and talked him down to $100.00

Board size 21" X 21"

PS = 2.0" (Square Size)

King Size = 1.65" Diameter and 3.5" height

Real/Authentic Drueke or not???!  happy.png happy.png happy.png

I'm going to Bill Drueke @ Etsy and ask him to Authenticate...   happy.png  This is a really REALLY heavy set, I think about 40 lbs...  it is a beast...!!!

It's definitely authentic. those pieces are Indian-made drueke pieces... not sure where the board was made.

That's a Beauty !! A variation of board/storage that is new to me. Bill should be able to tell you what catalog/year that appeared in.

Clarification - Real/Authentic meaning if it was manufactured by WMF. Drueke & Sons or Drueke Games (Bill Drueke)... vs. a craftsman on Etsy like Colorado Woodworker who makes it...

I don't think so, because I don't see trademarks nor do I see the half diagonal sticker...  but hey, it coudln't hurt to ask right??!??  grin.png

I am positive Drueke made that vintage board/box. And the pieces were made in India. Drueke was contracting pieces out from there in the 80's/90's. And they were of much higher quality than we see from there today for the most part.

sad.png Ah well somewhat "crest fallern"  according to Bill Drueke...   (via Drueke Games on Facebook):

Quote "... This could be a Drueke board that some one customized. Drueke did not make those chess pieces..."

Quote " The edge of the board does not look like ours and the lights squares look like other than maple that we used."

... it's still an awesome set regardless, but if confirmed by Bill and/or his family it would have been just a bit more special...  happy.png  happy.png

Thank you one and all...!!!

Bill is correct. This is a board and set sold by Carrom several years after they took over the Drueke company. That’s the edge treatment Carrom used until they quit selling boards entirely in 2017. They used ash for the white squares. Still a killer of a deal at $100.

Thanks for the confirmation...  I'm going to do some more research now on Carrom/Drueke, to find out more about this set...  happy.png

Honestly my heart was racing when I first eyeballed the set...  I kept 2nd guessing myself should I ask for a discount or not...?  If he says not, what should I offer?  Should I pay him in full? I was so nervous but walking back to my car, I saw at least one couple who spotted me and asked if there were any more chess sets at the garage sale...   happy.png

Obviously, you got a great deal....but....there is nothing like the feeling you get when buying on emotion.

Fabulous buy!

My jaw dropped when I saw the photos. It looks awesome! Too bad what Bill said but it is still a very nice piece regardless.

My heart stopped when I first saw this board...  I was thinking please let all the pieces be in the drawers... Please let all the pieces be there as a complete set...  happy.png what a relief it was when I opened the drawers in the storage to find them *ALL*...

I have this EXACT same chess set with the storage and it came with Drueke/Carrom paperwork!  I purchased it in 2002 or 2003.  I believe I paid around $225 for it.

It is a beautiful set, and I was trying to research this company, and this board & storage configuration to see what I could learn about it.  I was thrilled to find these pictures posted because I could not find anything about this configuration by this company online.

I wanted to post some additional photos that showed more detail, but I don't see how to attach photos in this forum.

Is this a rare board?  Any idea on current value for such a board?  I definitely don't want to sell it, as I'm just getting back into playing and I love it!  Thanks for any information anyone can provide.
