This would be nice! I am still in shock that these chess boards have such glitches and from companies that have done this for years. How can such a small and new company come out with better tech (piece recognition) than the supposed stalwart leaders in the industry? Not to mention offering them at a much better price.
I hope one of them reads this and takes it to heart.
(also, one day I'll get to a level to play you Jewel! )
My Chessnut Air functions perfectly - but its small size feels visually cramped.
The Chessnut Pro no doubt functions perfectly as well (apart from the unfortunate choice of red move indicating lights), but its huge size - 3cm larger than even the DGT smart boards - would just take up too much real estate in an average modest apartment lounge room like mine.
Square-Off Pro similarly too huge for me, and lacking piece recognition, has terrible user reviews of all the glitches.
DGT Pegasus also small, and with no piece recognition also seemingly plagued by glitches.
For me the perfect, not too big, not too small size is that of my Chess Centaur. Doesn't overwhelm my coffee table, but with its 40x40cm size (playing area 38.5x38.5cm), allows my eyes to roam around on it in a relaxed way. If I tweaked the size at all it would be to make it a cm or two larger, but it's fine as it is.
So perhaps this is a callout to both Chessnut and DGT, who already have the eboard and piece recognition tech. Make an e-board with piece recognition the size of the Chess Centaur (no smaller - up to 45x45cm footprint is probably okay) and I will buy it. I believe it would sell well. I find both the Chessnut Air and Chess Centaur board and piece styles equally appealing in different ways.
