Electronic chess board

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a electronic chess set, where I can play 1100Elo but also one where my kid can learn. Also it would be great if it can be connected to online chess apps.

Budget around 600 dollars.

I've been looking at the Millenium Exclusive and the King Performance, DGT boards and Chessnut Evo, thoug being based in Europe worry a bit about any possible import tax and also the year warranty.

Thanks for any recommendations

Have you looked into ChessUp 2 at all? I have one and really enjoy it. My two kids also use it. You can play online, against bots, there are built in lessons and the team that runs it are very responsive with any issues.

I have the Millennium Exclusive and have been very happy with it. You will want to buy chesslink accessory to get the most functionality out of the board. It is a bit of an older system, but I think Millennium does a nice job keeping the system up to date. It looks like Schach Niggeman in Germany has some pretty good prices right now.
I also have the DGT Pegasus. I really want to like it more than I do, but there are just enough connectivity issues that I wouldn’t trust it for online games. I’d say it works fine 90% of the time. (So far my Millennium board has worked 100%).

I use the Chesnut Pro I'm very happy with it. It's about half the price compared to the dgt board at the discount(premium pieces:770$, regular pieces:630$. I'm using it by connecting to chess.com through the chessconnect program, and thanks to the LED function, I have no problem playing 15/10 rapid without looking at the screen at all, and I'm very satisfied. In my case, I bought it to get used to the otb board to get a feed rating later, and it gives me a very different satisfaction than playing games online.

Look at the Certabo and Tabutronic based in Italy. Outstanding customer service from the owner of the business. Had mine for years, long before the current crop.

@MasterRenderer, at that price point, the Chessnut Evo is probably your best all-in-one option.

Am I right the Chestnut pro and Evo are about the same price?

This so, what would the appeal of the Evo be? Smaller form factor? Or is the electronic screen just that much better?

I have a Chessnut Air and a Chessnut Pro. No problems with taxes. If you're afraid I see quite often Chessnut products like Chessnut Air or Chessnut Evo on Marktplaats.

Here in Ireland it's hit and miss. Sometimes they tax you for things imported from the US, sometimes, they don't. I have been hit for things as little as a hundred euro. My feeling (completely anecdotal) is they are becoming stricter.
For the record, I got hit with import duties when I got the Ventrueboard travel chess set I posted in the travelling chess set section and that's fairly recent.
But I live in IE not NL, local interpretations and implementations may differ, but I figure given we're all in the EU, you've similar import laws.
Thus, I think myself, you would be better off expecting to be hit by import tariffs and if you get away, good.

Can you get it on amazon.nl / .de or something like bol?
