I'm going through Jeremy Silman's Reassess your Chess. Again. I bought it. Again.
I have a paperbook version somewhere. I can't imagine I ever got rid of it. It's been a few years since I last played, and I found most of my chess books, but not that one. So I bough the Kindle version. Much better than paperback, anyway.
Going through the book is much more enjoyable using a good GUI, especially when I discovered most of the games are available in PGN, and the diagrams as FEN over on another site.
What's interesting to me is going through his quizzes of finding the best move. I had one where I got the "wrong" answer, but was vindicated by playing it through with my engine.
I'm going through Logical Chess Move by Move again. I last looked at that while I was in the north woods on vacation, far away from any computer. I'm finding benefit in comparing and contrasting the game commentary with what I'm seeing with my engine. In some cases, it helps me understand why the author has taken a particular stance. In others, it shows that authors are just human.
It's amazing to me that a minute of calculation on my mid-level laptop can help affirm or refute hours of manual analyses.
