I think you picked a solid set. The pieces are sold under many different names by many different sellers, the same classic Staunton set (which is always a good thing) - sometimes triple, sometimes quadruple-weighted. The reasons I do not appreciate this company is a) the loudmouth ad campaign they're running on many platforms, including Insta. They're marketing the set as something spectacular and unique, which it emphatically isn't. b) the vinyl board doesn't look great,. and c) the package is marginally (and I stress this point, marginally) overpriced.
As with many plastic classic Staunton style sets currently sold by different vendors, the BCSE XL set is similar, but not the same. The molds are unique. The matte plastic. The seams. The overall finishing of the pieces. I find the features of the pieces a bit finer.
Is the premium price worth it? That's subjective. Is the BCSE XL set a level higher in quality than other sets? In my opinion, yes.
Re: Advertising. We must not visit the same sites online. I have not seen one ad for the BCSE sets. I've seen their Amazon store. It's a bit over the top. But it's not like it upsets me or anything.
Which mousepad board did you go for? I saw these ones on American Chess Equipment that look nice:
