That mane can use a brush. It's wild!
First Purchase from StauntonCastle
I'd love to see a pic of the boxwood pieces in natural light (no sunshine). I actually considered this set but decided against it because it looked too much like the one I already owned. Congrats on your purchase!
That is how you pack a chess set!
Fabulous purchase.....Even owning 21 sets myself ,I'm still a bit jealous....Enjoy that prize.-![]()
How long did it take to ship it, when did you order the figures? I ordered a set of figures from Stauntoncastle on January 8th, 2021 and paid for it via PayPal, and despite multiple inquiries and using PayPal, I haven't even received a package number to this day.
Great pics, @GambitHawk . The first set of boxwood images looked very yellow so I wanted a natural light in the 5000k range. Your set looks fantastic and my decision to go with ebony at SC was a tough one. Your padauk wood is stunning. There are some value differences but that wouldn't bother me at all and I obsess over minutiae of all kinds. I'm hoping for some brown marbling in my ebony pieces but I'll be happy no matter as long as the quality is good.
Gambit: My Danum set is still in processing at SC so I haven't got my grubby little fingers on it yet. Apparently SC doesn't stain their ebony which is great imo (and I requested no staining). Jivatman sent a closeup of his Danum ebony pieces. Check it out - I hope mine is as nice.
The Danum design imo is so British. It just says England all over it. My Bucephalus/Punjab set is my India set or like I like to call it my Buddha set. All my early sets throughout my teens and my twenties had a British/European feel to the designs so this set is very nostalgic. I love it.
Well, the king certainly looks vaguely like a tea kettle, what could be more British than that? - Anyway, looks great.
Looks more like a tea cup than a tea kettle but I was thinking of the columns found at the old War Office in the Whitehall district.

Oh yeah, that is nice. That one ain't stained. I thought you already had your Danum's?
Not yet but now I know how the set will be packaged. I only have one board so I'm thinking I'll keep the foam and put them in a drawer for storage.
First purchase ever from the StauntonCastle site. Despite shipping delays and brief unresponsiveness for various reasons, I must say I am quite pleased. And as always, the padauk wood never ceases to impress. Pictures absolutely do not suffice.
Just waiting for my board to arrive (can't wait).
And sorry for anyone who had a bad experience with purchases from India. I consider myself lucky with this set and my other from Chessbazaar.
