These dvd Foxy OPenings . . . are they good?

Probably pretty spotty quality. I have some of these. They're dubbed from old VHS. Andrew Martin's coverage of the King's Gambit suggests a clearly losing line. That's probably the worst offender. I think it was Daniel King who suggested a sideline in the French which he admited he thought was bad as he was suggesting it and the only point to it was to get the opponent out of the book. On the other hand I think Martin's coverage of the Albin is about as good as you can get, it's just the opening itself may be dubious. Many of them are like that. Chris Ward's coverage of the anti-sicilians may be good. There's a lot there and I don't know enough to know how good it is. Anyway all in all these are very old and will be out of date, and I think most are bad, but there could be some gems.

I have watched the ones on the Benko Gambit, and enjoyed it.

Just my opinion, they are professional done and I do own a few.  The one I have were bought a while ago and they are good.

The problem DVD's have these days are the competition on you tube that is giving away a lot for free.  Same thing happened to poker DVD's.

The download and storing it in the cloud is getting more and more popular and costs less vs the physical DVD and having postage expense.  It is still considered a DVD of course and this is the way you might want to go to cut down on $$$.  But I am having a great time watching all that is free on you tube, and their is a plethora of it and it is very good.

As long as you understand the pawn structure youll understand the opening.

Sure thing, I know that in the Kings Indian Taimanov variation Black attacks on the kingside and White on the queenside because the pawn structure says so, I also know c5 for White and f5 for Black are the main pawn breaks because of the pon structure.

Does that mean I understand the opening?

HELL NO!

They're not expensive if you know where to look -- I bought a pile of them for $5 each (new).  Where to look?  Ask chess tournament bookstore owners who know that few people will pay the normal price since the content of these DVDs are available via pirate BitTorrent sites.

I enjoy watching them, even though they sometimes recommend dubious lines, just as books do.

As a person who bought a load of them for $5 each, please tell us where to buy them for this price. I checked every where and do not see anything close to that price.

Try contacting Stephen Cernobyl at HollywoodKingsChess.com.  I bought mine from him in person at the Florida State Chess Championship held in Tampa recently, but I assume that he also does mail orders.

Never heard of that seller but I do see an active url but very hard to navigate. Not saying you can't buy all the Foxy Videos you want for $5 but I don't see any listed.  Seems to be just local, which is good since you have sellers at your tournaments.  Always fun to browse their merchandise in betwixt games.  Thanks for posting.

The discounted DVDs are probably not listed on the site because he only recently decided to unload them, so I should have given you his email address instead: stephen@hollywoodkingschess.com

Here are the ones I acquired, mostly openings, some endgames:
