If any chess.com members from the UK are interested, I am selling my Fritz 8 on ebay at the moment.  There's no minimum bid amount, so you could get it for £0.99! Smile

There's just over 1 day to go and still no bids - I'm not bothered about how much it sells for, but I would like it go to a good home! Laughing  If any UK members at chess.com are interested, please consider making a bid.  A description from the back cover:

The Fritz you are holding in your hands is identical to the one that fascinated the world in the man vs machine duel against the human world champion.  But don't be afraid, Fritz is not just a chess playing monster.  It is a friendly chess partner for beginners and amateurs.  It will teach you to play from scratch, and can automatically adjust it's playing strength to suit your needs.  It will warn you when you go wrong in a game, giving you hints on how to play better.  In any position it will explain all possible continuations to you in plain language, and it will display all pieces that are attacked, defended or "hanging".  Afterwards it will analyse your games and point out mistakes and blunders.  It has many handicap and friendly levels.  Fritz has a photo-realistic 3D chessboard and will chatter humorously during the game.

Features include:

  • Interface with photo-realistic 3D chessboard
  • Chess pieces with highly detailed wood and marble textures
  • Greatly improved playing strength (Bahrain engine, Elo 2809)
  • Interactive openings training
  • Theme blitz for middle and endgame training
  • Deep position analysis

System requirements: Pentium PC, 32MB RAM, Windows98, ME, XP, 2000, CD-ROM drive, mouse.

It's a real shame that there aren't as many options for chess programs on the Mac.  Do you have any?  ShredderChess has a version for the Mac and Sigma Chess doesn't look bad either, especially if you run it with the Hiarcs engine for the Mac.

Sigma is very good. Even without Hiarcs it can thrash me far too easily, with Hiarcs it just gets boring being beaten so thoroughly time after time. Being a UCI interface i can have any UCI engine running so Fruit, Gambitfruit, Toga II and so on. If I need an expensive database programme like Chessbase (if the database bits of Sigma are not enough) then Exachess will do. If I am willing to play with the Unix underpinnings of OS X and install Fink or Darwin Ports I can have Crafty, Scid and a wealth of other open source chess stuff.

There may be less chess stuff for Mac but just how much do you need?

I think I've set up the sale on ebay for UK only sales (I'm a newbie at selling stuff, so I'm not sure).  I have other programs to sell soon, so I'll try to make sure that I set them up for postage outside the UK if anyone is interested.  Sorry!Embarassed

Isn't there a windows emulator available for OS/x / Leopard?  I think I'd heard that one had been released a while ago.

There are emulators for Macs that don't have an Intel processor (like mine) but why would anyone want to run Fritz on an emulator? It is slower, probably wouldn't run well due to the fancy graphics and there is better available that runs natively. On an Intel Mac Boot Camp will allow Windows to run without any mucking about at all.

My Fritz 9 is now for sale at ebay, but I'm afraid it's for UK buyers only.  Either I'm not allowed to sell outside the UK, or I can't figure out how to do it! Embarassed
