I do love the look of glassy. But it's too fragile for my taste, and the sound of hitting the squares hurts my ears. Actually, one of my favorite things about wooden sets is the sound the fabric makes when it hits the wood as you place a piece down. It's present but it's so calm and homely to hear that gentle "thump". I can't believe it, but I really do have a lot of nostalgia associated with that sound! That is one reason why plastic and glass can't ever be the same for me.

I had the privilege of playing with someone else's glass chess set when I was younger. From what I can remember, I was really careful with the pieces!
They are just asking to get damaged. Chess sets should be durable, as the pieces and board will get dropped or bashed about.
