Green and White Chessboard

Hello,

I was going to ask if anybody knows about a green and white chess board not in wood or  vinyl, I saw it once but I cannot find it again. It is made I believe from a pressure board or something similar and it was painted.

Thank you

Not sure which one you might be refering to. I know some guys have made their own and recently  "Gomer" posted a nice one here ( link 1st page at bottom), but it's a wood one from Hos.

That's a greenwood/birdseye maple board I bought from the House of Staunton. A number of other retailers carry them. It's probably some type of plywood overlayed with dyed veneer. The white squares look like birdseye maple dyed a milk white. I don't know what the green squares are but they are also dyed. I received one as part of a set/board/box combo deal and fell in love with it. In fact, I like it so much I bought two more in different sizes. It feels stiff and solid and has a satin finish with low glare. I believe it's made in Spain by Rechapados Ferrer. They make nice boards.

I once asked HOS about the following green/maple board and learned it's one of Frank Camaretta's personal boards and not for sale. Nice looking board.

House of Staunton used to offer folding, green and white, Masonite chess boards.  They also offered folding, linen chess boards and folding boards made of cardboard. Sadly, these products were discontinued for lack of sales.

I'm a fan of folding tournament boards. They were fairly common years ago.  I think HOS still has a few double-fold linen boards, but they're not tournament sized.

Here's an HOS folding Masonite board, with 2.25 inch squares.  I bought several of these before they discontinued the product.  It's a great board.

That board looks nice. Masonite must make a good material for a light folding board. It's fairly stiff and hard and almost impervious to water. How is it holding up?

The Drueke "Chess Primer" set was marketed with various types of inexpensive boards, including masonite like this one.  This particular set has wooden chess pieces, the Chess Primer was often sold with plastic pieces instead.

It's holding up great.  These boards are good quality, durable.
