Another try: Smyslov for #3.

WAG for #3: Taimanov

fburton

Neither Smyslov nor Taimanov for #3. However, you have the correct nationality. An additional clue is that it is a trick question, intended to make it harder to get 100% right. In fact, two of the others are sort of trick questions (in a different way).

Crazychessplaya

#2 is Hans Ree.

Noreaster

#2  Dirk Jan ten Geuzendam?

Noreaster

#1 Larsen?

johnyoudell

#1 Alexander?

fburton

#2 is indeed Hans Ree, writing in The Human Comedy of Chess.

#1 isn't either Larsen or Alexander.

Crazychessplaya

My head is swole. I have three candidates for #4: Mednis, Chernev and Minev.

fburton

Actually, #4 is a world champion.

I'm thinking I made these too hard.

Please be relevant, helpful & nice!

Crazychessplaya

#4 is Petrosian.

Crazychessplaya

#3 is Bronstein.

rooperi

These are far too tough for me.

I give up. But, if you want obscure (Foot in Mouth) may I add #5?

Now that you mention it, I'm not. Tatiana Boleslavsky?
