Don't worry, we are all confused here...and what an abrupt ending to your (winning) game, unfortunately you moved Gerhard instead of Heinrich and it cost you the game sad.png

My brain is, obviosly, hard at work and will soon hand me some genius instruction. I feel safe not having to think at all. What can go wrong?

My hands don't read me! I followed pavmo's invitation to post my instructions here and not in messages, but the smurfs were no good messengers, it seems. The bespectacled brought the mechanic a Marigo pawn to move!

So das wahr ein befehl? Mein Gott!

As for Plastic Fantastic I´m borderline cheating. The board, obviously, is a wooden one but the pieces are replicas of the 1940´s Soviet Carbolite set (which was made of resin=plastic). These replicas, however, are made from boxwood and then treated to look like... plastic. Simply fantastic!

So whatever move they make next I shall grab a pawn? Easy, there´s still eight of them to chose from... Zu befehl! ...but I can´t move a black pawn.

That's a very nice Knight, which set does it belong to?

I agree - looks like a replica of a Spanish-made Lardy-‘ish … what set is that knight from?

Avatar of ungewichtet

I think it is called Marigo and I believe it is 70ies to 90ies Spanish. I will come back to this with a few photos and, I hope, references.

I once bought a board with an escardibul sticker, it was small, ornamental, with cigarette ember proof surface. I researched Escardibul and found Arlindo Vieira's series on Spanish chess pieces that he posted here in 2015. That opened a new perspective on chess collecting for me- just read all 8 threads for yourselves, it is a treasure!

For the Marigo set, it is presented in part #8.

That thread has a comment by another player/collector, Cristobal Ortega, who has researched and written a little about Marigo and links to it.

Arlindo Vieira estimates the original design to stem back from the 1950ies or 60ies. The design of the knights changed shape over time, but they all look good. I have a like-new set from, I estimate, the 90ies with toothless, rather smiling caballos, for example.

The plastic set is in the same design as the earlier versions, and it is good quality- used but only some razed rook turrets. No idea about its age but it did even yellow in a pleasant fashion.

While we are waiting for Herman's hand to play move 3, I'll make a pre-move, or rather pre-piece, so I call

to be moved after Herman moves one of his knights.

Hey, there are not just two knights to chose from, first I have to chose a set. But I decided on this 70´s design (by swedish designer Rune Viking).

Then my right hand gripped the b knight and put it down on c3.

As it happens I was awake at 4am … a night of heavy rain, thunder and lightening had me checking the pooch and the house! And now at 5.45 am the moon still shines …
