SPANISH CHESS SET 8 Music Without Words

My last post about Spanish chess pieces. Hard work looking old  Spanish chess magazines, trying reasonable photos of  Spanish sets of my collection, and here and there try the tangle of wires that are losing.

Eight sets, that in my opinion makes the story of Spanish chess, and above all, proves the originality of Spanish design of chess pieces. In Spain there was concern copy of imported models but more loyalty to their own style, though influenced in Staunton.

The chess pieces in the photos are great. One of  most beloved spanish pieces in my collection.

This set was very common and used in various Chess Clubs and tournaments of the Islas Canarias. The covers of Spanish chess magazines, an the magazine itself like Ajedrez, or Ajedrez Canario, proves what I say.

This set was so popular that before  The Great Linares Chess Tournament, the Strong Tournament of Montilla Morilles used this chess pieces in action.

It’s a lovely set, with great proportion, and like most spanish sets design, suitable for practical chess.

Some sets are still part of some clubs of Spanish chess, but are rare.

The other chess set that is extraordinary rare and that I thought was originally Spanish, the famous chess pieces of  LAS PALMAS, it is not. Let me explain: the pieces may even have been manufactured in Spain, but is an adapted copy of a popular German set.
But on this issue I will back again in another post.

Hello,

About the first one.

I own one of these chess sets. I think It's a "Marigo" chess set. No longer manufactured.

I have played with it in a couple of chess clubs. It is not usual to see it, but it exists in the second-hand market. It was simplified with the time, mine has a poorer carving in the knights. So I guess yours should be older. Yours is really nice.

I have some photos of the set in a google site I keep just for tracking my collection. You could see how the knight has been simplified.

Kind regards
