Has anyone heard of this company called The Chess Piece which is based in Florida?

It's hard for domestic chess vendors to compete when their suppliers start selling direct, and offer free shipping!

Anaguma,
I've bought several sets from Steve over the years. He's honest, knowledgable, and a pleasure to work with. I had my eye on that Northern Upright set for a while but never pulled the trigger. Always got sidetracked by another set. I currently own his New American set in blood rosewood. Super quality stuff, so it's safe to assume the Northern Upright will be likewise. Good luck!

I just noticed on the Chess Piece website that this set is out of stock. I spoke with Steve last week. I don't think he'll be restocking.

I bought a set from them years ago. There were some cracking problems that Steve worked hard to correct. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/antiqued-staunton-set-from-thechesspiece
I've long been tempted by their Northern Upright. Actually, I've long been tempted by several of their sets. They have some very interesting sets that I've never seen anywhere else. In another thread somewhere here a couple of us were wondering if he is still in business. It would be a shame if he is not..

And nobody needs nice clothes, nice house or nice car. No sense eating steak when stew provides all you need. It just wastes money. This is an old argument brought up by people envious of other peoples' nice things.

You don't need fancy chess sets they just waste your money
Thank you for your opinion, but remember, opinions are not facts. Based on your logic, any monies spent on anything beyond the basic necessities for food, shelter, and clothing is a wasteful expense. Is the goal in life to avoid all costly pleasures and accumulate as much money as possible? And if so, to what end?

I emailed them, got no reply. Not sure if they are still in business.
Keep trying. I spoke with Steve just the other day. I would also call the number on the website and leave a message. Steve is in the process of shutting down the business and selling off his stock, so I imagine he has a lot on his plate at the moment.

Thanks for letting me know. So he is still in business, might actually find some bargains maybe?
