Help ID a chess set
I'm not usually a huge fan of the less traditional pieces, but wow these look amazing, especially the knight. The coloring and gloss reminds me of INCAISA ... which now makes me sad because there still seems to be no simple direct way to get ahold of an Alpha Sumo set.
I love those scowling demon like knights.
Recently I saw a kind of random unbranded chess set on eBay and bought it. It has knights that aren’t as stern as the ones in the OP but they still look bizarre. Like someone who carved them had no idea what a real horse’s head looks like. These kinds of weird, off beat, reject knights are probably what makes me want to buy the sets they come with.
Thanks to some tips from above I’m now convinced that my set is a copy of the Brazilian sets used in the 1973 Petropolis Interzonal tournament.
The Petropolis Interzonal tournament was one of two held that year, the other was in Leningrad. It was an 18 player round robin at Petropolis, Brazil, a city near Reo de Janeiro. The top 3 players qualified for the World Championship Candidates matches. Henrique Mecking a Brazilian Grandmaster won. Seven-time American Champion, Samuel Reshevsky played in it and came in 11th.
If you search for “Brazilian set” or “Petropolis set” in this forum you will see several older posts with pictures of similar sets. I suppose my set could be either a Brazil or India made copy. I like to think my set was made in Brazil.
Great set. I don’t think this is a 1973 Petropolis Interzonal set. I think what you are seeing are common elements of Brazilian design which are also expressed in the 1973 sets. Consider posting to https://www.facebook.com/groups/603874686964478/?ref=share
Help Identify a chess set

I got this set at an estate sale. The king is 4.5 inches tall. The bishop has no slot in the mitre. Does anyone recognize this set? Who made it and when was it made? … is it a Lardy set? … did Lardy ever make knights like this?
