Help a newbie to the site. I don't see the icon to post pictures. I thought maybe it was an Android issue so now on my laptop, I see a different interface but still no picture icon. I am sure it is tough for you to help me with my set if you can't see it.
Help ID this set please!

Let's see.... French, Staunton-ish, marble eyes --- Chavet or Lardy, maybe? Do your knights look anything like these?
(from @walterbiensur on p8 of the Henry Chavet Guide thread)
Or maybe this?
(from @Ronbo710 in the Glass Eyed Lardy set update thread)

Oh, and I seem to recall someone said that you have to be on here for a week before you can post pix (I think?).

Thank you. The set looks quite a bit like the second picture. The knight's neck is more scooped out (if that makes any sense) and the ears are not quite as pronounced. The finish is more matte than those in the picture. I will go check out that post.

If you can send messages earlier than post pictures you could send me a link after uploading your set somewhere.

Oh my ungewichtet, I think I'm going to try your patience. I don't have a place to upload my pics and unfortunately have a bit too much going on to spend time figuring that out!

I think that is the ticket! Knights are more like pfidie's with the wood being that of crusaderwabbiit's 3 1/4 K at the end of the thread.
Interesting that one of the board's I was looking at was Palisander Rosewood - I hope it wasn't one I dismissed as too pricey. Of course if the set is more valuable than I thought, maybe I need to up my limit which is currently $200 US give or take. But a bundle of $ for a game I only played a little bit 50 years ago.

Didn't see you post but thanks for the info. (Thought I set up my profile to notify me but I guess not.). Anyway I am now allowed to post pics so here goes...
After reading all the "see my knights" thread and a good 30 pages of the "look at my set" thread, I give up on the DIY research and am throwing it out to all of you active chess players and set collectors.
This set was my dad's that I think he purchased in the mid to late 60s. Pretty much a Staunton variation that a sticker on the box says was made in France. I think it is hand carved from olive and a dark wood, maybe wenge, ebony or a stained? The pieces are lightly weighted and felted, with the King coming in at 100 mm or just shy of 4". I think the one piece knights are really cute with their marble? eyes. The mane is asymmetrical with one side having a light carving and none on the other. They are nearly identical but not so much that disabuses any notion of hand carving.
The box is a black and white pattern hardboard resembling fabric, lined in red velvet. The dividers between the pieces are removable. Pretty ugly box in my opinion for such a nice set
Obviously, the Dreuke #61 walnut and birch board is way too small at " squares and 15" overall. But my search for a in board is a post for another day. Thanks for any insight you can provide!
