Aquired this set. Marked "Tirolian Wood Carvings 1895"

Does anybody know the value of a set like this, I can't find any info on it!

No idea, but what a cracking set. Would sit very nicely in my living room  :0)

Might have been an idea to get a valuation before u bought it though :0)

Fischer would have refused it :-)

I'd like to help you on this one...I believe the set itself is a 'Farmers Bust' which is carved by Tyrolean chess wood carvers native to Austria-The State of Tyrol. There are several styles of a Farmers Bust set; most different in the Rook, and Knight-the general shape is usually the same, while the intricate designs are different depending on the artisan's choice.

Bust being an artisan crafted upper body representation of a human subject.
