Okay but how to prove it? It is very hard to see on a picture.
How acceptable is a very slight lean/tilt?
I've seen some pieces from cheaper sets lean because of improper weight settings. I don't recall seeing any leaners in my better sets. It would annoy the crap out of me but I'm a little OCD so your results may vary.
You obviously will need to take pictures of the piece upright against a straight edge.
In my own opinion, a lean that is so slight that it can only be seen from certain angles really doesn't seem like a significant issue for a non-luxury set. Of course, if you find it too noticeable to be tolerable then you can certainly try to get a replacement piece.
Keep in mind that if CB refuses to replace the piece, you can still send the entire set back for a full refund.
it doesn't take much to cause a slight lean to a piece sometimes they get to much glue on the base. You can use a one sided razor blade and carefully insert it in the side of the lean sepeating the felt carefully from the base. alot of times when you remove the blade problem solved sometimes a slight shim and of course a dab of tacky glue which will not saturate the felt and your good to go. tacky glue is available in craft stores
just inset a corner of the blade about 1/8 of an inch between the felt and base. don't go farther no need
48 hr? I thought they brag about their lifetime guarantee. I have had sets sit 2 weeks before I find time to open and inspect them. A 48 hr timeframe would be unacceptable. That would be a game-breaker to order a set.
Are you buying a set to play with or as a prop? If the lean is as imperceptible as you say, it won’t affect game play at all. On the other hand, if you’re buy the set as a furniture piece, any lean will drive you crazy.
Here's the somewhat obvious warped rook. I asked replacement for this.
Here's the less obvious non-symmetrical bishop. If you look very closely at the head, it is not entirely symmetrical but a bit ' fatter' on one side. I wonder if this is replacement worthy or just something that is part of hand carved pieces not being 100% machine like perfect?
I noticed when I turn two of my Chessbazaar Dubrovnik pieces and look very closely they have a veeeeery tiny amount of lean viewed from one particular side. It is barely noticable though.
Is this normal with these 'hand carved' pieces in this price range or should chess pieces be absolutely 100% machine precision straight?
Edit: was just thinking it could even be the green felt underneath being slightly thinner on one side.
