I know this book will help me. But not now at least. I attempted reading the first chapters like improving the bishop but the examples are simply too complex. I dont think i am up to that level yet to see all these threats that are present. I recently finished reading Amateurs mind and 4th edition of reassessing your chess by Jeremy Silman. What other books can i read up taht will lead up to mastering chess strategy.

Have you read GM Pachman's Modern Chess Strategy? Some people prefer the multi-volume edition as they are more detailed. I have the comprehensive, one volume edition, and it's a good book.

Yes, Hellsten's book is aimed at players of 2000+ FIDE strength.

Pachman's book is the holy shit (I have both the single and the multi-volume editions, and I prefer the latter, although the single volume one is also great).

If you want an elementary, introduction type book, try GM Seirawan's Winning series books (Winning chess strategy, winning chess tactics, etc.). If you already know about open files, outposts, etc., try reading Capablanca's Chess Fundamentals. Ultimately, there is no substitute for practice. Reading books can only get you that far. You need to play more games.

I would suggest Yusupov's "Build Up your Chess - Fundamentals" book series (start from the first volume).

It is simply better than anything Silman has ever written, because 1. Yusupov had ulimate training as an elite player, and is a real master of chess in and out, and 2. he has trained himself several GM's and IM's, and has a very thorough "know-how".

True, his writing is more dry than Silman's, but heck, I'd rather read some good novel if I would like entertainment- not a chess book!

Pawn power in chess by Hans Kmoch.  I think that is a very good book.
