I assume they don't make the Drueke magnetic sets anymore?
That is a shame. I still have one I got 10+ years ago. Wouldn't sell it for love or money.

Hello, I saw this in a different forum. Not exactly what you asked for, but it is interesting.

Here's something that looks a little more like what you want...
Magnetic chess sets are nice, but it's always a pleasure to work with wood pieces. They feel nice and make the game more pleasurable. I hate plastic pieces that roll up sets use
Flmope: this what your referring to?

I just got one the other day from chess house. It's pretty nice.. i can have the board on my lap while i go through any of my books and I don't have to worry about pieces slipping. And it's the only board i've ever seen that you can close without losing your position.
I have to admit that the quality of the pieces kinda suck.. but.. if you're only using it for analysis or following along with a book it's about as good as it gets.
Hi everyone,
I'm currently looking for a decent self-contained chessboard/box combo. Specifically, I'm looking for something in the style of the old plastic Drueke chess sets: A wooden box, the lid of which slides out and is the folded board, made of either thick cardboard or very thin wood. So far, the only things I've been able to find are roll-up boards and boards of this type:

I don't care much for this type of board, primarily because the face of the board is on the outside of the box, and is thus prone to damage while traveling. Roll-up boards are right out, because they're next to impossible to move while a game is in progress. Has anyone ever encountered travel boards of the old Drueke type? Quality is not a huge concern-- I'm far more discerning about the quality of the pieces, which I already have (2.5" king).
