Infinite Analysis

I think, like a lot of people, when I am reviewing a game with an engine I am more likely to go move-by-move with the "Infinite Analysis" on then run the "Full Analysis." I find it more convenient and as I am moving through the game I can remember more fully my own thought process and see where I could have come to better/stronger conclusions.

My question is about Infinite Analysis: If one lets it sit, the analysis obviously changes (though usually only slightly). Is this a matter of the engine looking "deeper" into the position, that is more moves ahead and refining it's "opinion" of it, or is it that more variations are being discovered which change the pawn value of the move?

Thanks!!

In my understanding (flawed though it may be), the analysis can do deeper, that is to say more moves into a variation, or wider, as in trying more branches within the variation. Aren't these different activities?
