Those are pretty tall pieces! I'm pretty sure they're St. George style pieces. You can see others here:

Yeah they do look like the St. George set. Out of all pre-Staunton sets. The St. George would have to be my favorite. They looked the most stable and durable set from that era.
I thought these were very interesting looking chess pieces? Anyone know much about them and their history? This photo is from about 1906 in the US.
