Is that board made of chipboard ?

The set below is sold second hand for about 100$.

They say it's walnut/maple, but the moulded edges are weird, are they chipboard ?
Do you think it's worth the price ? Thanks

It's 46x46cm so I assume the cases are 45mm

The playing board looks like walnut & maple veneer, the elevated frame could be any kind of wood.

Mostly_BFK

But the frame doesn't really look like wood. To me it looks like carboard or even concrete lol

Nobody would mount a veneer wooden board onto a cardboard frame.

Mostly_BFK

I'm not saying it is, it's probably some composite wood. But is the board of cheap quality then ?

What's the square size?

Wits-end

The edge molding definitely looks like some type of particle board from the photo. In my opinion, I wouldn’t pay $100 for it. Good luck hunting!

Probably 2" inches.

I had a board just like that.

The pieces are probably Dal N e g r o.

I know too much about chess sets.

Thank you all, I don't think I'm going to buy it

Not so fast. It is probably the most beautiful.

But consider durability. A silicone chess set and board is indestructible. And easy to clean.

On second thought, buy it. Buy both. Wood and silicone.

One for special occasions, one for everyday use.

And "kick it old school."

If it's a 2" board, I think it'll be worth those $100 if it's in excellent condition.

2" inch squares.

Not 2" inches thick.

chessmaster_diamond

That's what I meant.
