I have never read "My System".....
Is the book "My System" worth getting?

If you don't believe me ask IM pfren, NM Dan Heisman, Estragon or anyone else here who is a NM, FM, IM, or GM.
Except me I guess.
I never really got too much out of Nimzovich (except confused and rather annoyed). I think there are much better books on strategy available--a whole lot clearer and more useful.

lol

What's the best move for Black in the following position? Well 4...Bd6 might jump out at you as it defends his extra pawn on ...f4.
And you would be correct but there's another reason: because it blockades White's d-pawn. Such moves for the sake of blockading become positively second nature to you IF YOU'VE READ NIMZOVICH. Heck I've had crappy positions where I've been able to give up a pawn, then blockade the opponents capturing pawn, and presto, counterplay.

Former New Zealand chess champion FM Sarfati told me that he thought My System was somewhat overrated. He said I might as well read it because it is a classic though.
He recommended the original version of Chess Fundamentals by Capablanca, but said some of the openings were outdated.

sOMEONE ASKED ON cOACH hEISMAN'S SHOW maybe a month or 2 ago the same. Coach's response was double edged in that he'd recommend something else to his students but recognized the book as a classic. You should look it up for yourself because I'm notably unreliable.

Yes, although it's better to read it at 1700-2000 level than at 1460.
that's somehow logical if it's specially addressed to the TS.btw is it necessary to know basic end game mating say b+n+k v k before grabbing the book?

I'd ignore everyone's comment, focus on WGM's.
Same goes for your entire multiliner.:)

I picked up one of his books and laughed.........
.. it looked like something i could find in these threads / groups forums.

I have the book, even though im like a class C player. I like the book so, but only read like the first page so far because I got the book today!! :)

Buy a book not some overpriced DVD! Both books you listed are the same one with different front covers. BUT you gotta look around some more (next time) I found a used copy in VG cond for $6.17 inc S+H: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/1880673851/ref=cm_rdp_olp
For this price you can't go wrong even though this edition seems to have some typos and proofreading issues (ie mediocre proofreading) Nimzovitch is actually fun to read - and he's instructive too!

How did you find it?
I did not look around for price as i am trying to find more info on the book itself. But as i am looking as of now the lowest price i see is $9.80.
6.17 shipping and handling!

Click on my link (in boldface below and in my OP) I guess I shouldn't ASSume everyone recognizes a working link esp when it just looks like text. I forget exactly how I found it but in general just type the books name into amazons search bar and be sure to read ALL of the options - new, used, PB, HB, etc and I may have found it outside of amazon by googling My System for reviews (not prices) sometimes search engines come up with some handy "wrong results"

Look for a used copy in "VG" very good cond for $2.17 and $3.99 S+H

Yes, it's worth getting. It's one of the greatest chess books ever written. Every chess player should read it.
