Ok, second time the same video...

I think wood chess sets are not the best for blitz couse they can break if drop and they are more spensive than plastic, and if you drop plastic it kinda is harder to break. For instance consider this chess set better for Blitz:

That set actually is one of three that DGT provides for their electronic boards. The style goes by many names, but the blocky looking knight (sometimes called a "german style" knight) is pretty ubiquitous in higher level tournament play.

There are quite a number of manufacturers that make this style of set, and it is also the wood option on the USCF/House of Staunton Ultimate Tournament kit.

As for wood sets during blitz play, yes they are less durable than the plastic pieces (though I have seen those chip and break too), but this "chunky" style would probably be your best bet  if you wanted to play with wood.

I usually bring a wood and a plastic set with me when I am going to play. I prefer to play with wood, but if the people I end up playing with seem to play rough and tumble speed chess - I will usually opt for their set or my plastic set. Same goes for clocks. If they show no respect for other people's property - then they can mess up their own, not mine.

On a side note, you will never see plastic sets in any kind of in higher level tournament play, especially FIDE tournaments, since FIDE tournament rules require wood pieces and boards in the higher level tournaments.

Hope that helps!
