I wonder if people in Siberia are still digging them up and eating them?
Isle of Lewis Chess Set

I heard years and years ago that when found frozen, they have been eaten.
Yum!10,000 year-old elephant meat!

I have heard of the effort to Jurassic Park the Wooly Mammoth back into existence. It's probably just an effort to get the price of a Mammoth Ivory Chess Set down below $13,000
I could swear I just saw the House of Staunton set for around $8,000.00 somewhere online....

I need to see a pic of your set. I own a set with its board. They come in different sizes.
Okay, be patient, because I am not the best at posting photos on chess.com.
I do not know how to post this any smaller. Notice the size compared to the bill at the bottom of the photo.
[Image size needs to be no bigger than 600x600. Otherwise it causes problems for certain mobile devices.]

Thank you.

My son-in-law helped me figure out how to post these photos. These are more photos of the set in post #30. The White and Black pieces are the same except for the pawns, that is why I have the White pawn with the Black below.

Goldendog, that is a cute set. The black pieces almost look like they're made of chocolate. I have a small set like that made of white marble & onyx I bought in Mexico a few years ago. It's kind of hard to play a game on, but makes a nice decorative set to display on my shelf.

The photos I posted in #35 show up great on my MAC, but not on my wife's Windows laptop. I must do some more figuring all of this out.

Mammoth ivory isn't considered illegal because it's classified as a fossil, and not subject to the current international ban.

Also not convenient to find.

It's a mammoth tusk.
I recently read where Russian authorities confiscated several tons of mammoth tusks. Must have got them from people poaching the rare mammoths or something.
