Yeah those black (bakelite) jantar asking price is crazy. BC I read about 120 USD.
Those EU parlement members do nothing but just cashing in. But that's another topic.

This glasseyed knight lardy set is funny, the knight is like dogface knight on steroid, the bishop and the one from Chavet 121/6 looks similar to each other, the queen looks like the Lardy 1974 version, the pawn, rook and the king are very similar to Chavet or the other way around. The best part this set is 93mm, most of the sets that you find are usually 85mm.
The set you speak of is the one I've had for years. Bought it long ago and forget how much I spent, but am curious - what might that set be worth in today's marketplace. To me it's an heirloom, but my spouse might be interested in what it might be worth when I finally leave this world.
It's quite rare, you don't see them often on secondary market. The small one just sold for 265 USD on fleabay last month, you can check on sold history for how much they're going.
Scoundrel here. If anyone finds TWO of those slotted chess sets, please consider me second in line.
Also, those bakelite Jantar clocks freaking skyrocketed in value since their appearance in QG. I so badly wanted one before, but was just biding my time...
I agree about the Soviet sets being cheap in Russia. If I remember correctly @CGrau said in one of the Soviet threads that chess sets in Russia were mass produced. That's why original Soviet sets are not usually that expensive on Etsy... around $100 or so.
Wait what? Like the vintage sets?
What site other than Etsy?
Here is the thread https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/fake-soviet-sets. I actually remembered incorrectly. It was not @CGrau that said the sets are a dime a dozen. Others said that. @CGrau said the vintage sets used in tournaments are rare and could be expensive. The ones sold on the street in Russia are not rare nor expensive.
Lots of junk soviet chess sets have entered the market and at high prices.
Is that on Ebay? I've seen a few ugly looking Russian sets recently on there lol. I'd love to be pointed in the direction of the vintage sets that are talked about on here from Ebay UK. Be a good way to learn what's a bargain, good or rubbish.
Found this 43mm mahogany old English style board in a local ad. On the back it has that mdf/plywood frame construction.
Congrats! That's just beautiful. I love elevated frames boards with thin borders. The faded colors look just right.
Yeah cool mini me's eh? I've seen few like this board passing by but they asked too much to my liking. Couldn't pass this one for the price of Mc Donald's happy meal 😋

I never knew Chavet made other games. I guess they were the Dreuke of France or Drueke was the Chavet of America.
If anyone can search their local sources and find me a travel slotted chess wallet/passport like the one below for cheap, I would be grateful.
Sellers are asking $100 for an old cardboard one. Leather ones go for even more. Not sure how many are actually selling at that price. I'm seeing the same ads month after month. Overpriced, yes. I'm not finding any alternatives. PLEASE MESSAGE ME. Do not post it here on the public forum, a scoundrel will grab it before I have a chance. Thanks in advance!
