We have several members here that own Lardy originals. The question is will they part with them.? After I compare them to other sets I don't think the design is that HOT anymore IMO.
Looking for a Lardy Set

The plastic sets I played on throughout the seventies were pretty all much knock offs of this design. I guess I'm nostalgically fond of it. Especially the knight when it's well-carved.

I have 2 sets just like those pictured in the OP and with 4" Kings . I purchased these sets decades ago and I have two others that are with 3.5" kings , one laquered and one not . Neither of the big sets are laquered . My wife uses the smaller not laquered set as her tourney set .

EBay is still the best bet. I was bidding on a Lardy set made for Lowes a few weeks ago, it was mint in the box like no one ever opened it, it was amazing. I wasn't on when the auction ended and it only went for about $70.00 or so. It even came with a special case. Was 100% genuine Lardy.
when looking for a Lardy set on eBay how do you find them?
Do you put "Lardy" in the search or something else?
By the way I really like the looks of the set in the OP.

yes

I didn't have much interest in the Lardy set until I saw that pic. Something about the worn board and sturdy pieces. . . Damn. . . Now I've got something else to obsess over.
Well I am a Rosewood fan and I want a 3.75" set to play with. Darn you guys. The Chess Store has a Lardy set in Rosewood at 3.75" on eBay. However they do not have it on their web site exactly like that. And that set looks nice.
Now I probably will have to get it.
Well, after seeing that Chess Store Lardy Repro in Rosewood and 3.75" on eBay ( with a 'Lardy chess' search) I called The Chess Store and with a repeat customer coupon they told me about I am getting it for $87 delivered.
I'm looking for an original Lardy set, 3.5" plus, to add to my collection. Any suggestions on where to look? Ebay is awash in reproductions, but not many originals these days. Many thanks!
