Design the Ultimate scorebook. Those HC books, the first thing you do is have to crack the binding open so they can lay flat. Not great.
Looking to bring back old classics - Need some help!

I bought the tan colored one, the weighting is all over the place and it's 600g instead of advertised 900g. They are filled with paraffin wax, they were filled when the pieces were hold upside down so all the wax were mostly from the middle to the top. Some of the sealing were cracked so I can see when the pieces are in hot place, the wax will melt and coming through the cracked sealing into the thin felts.
They still sell well though as they're the only one that offers reasonable good looking plastic Dub sets.
Going by Shelby's estimates, chessgamesshop may have paid roughly $30,000 USD for those 2 Dubrovnik molds. They have to sell a literal TON of them to make back their investment and then turn a profit. I'm not surprised they skimped on everything else trying to squeeze out profit. The bases don't even match. LOL
@TheOneCalledMichael Have you posted a review w/pics about your plastic Dubrovnik set from ChessGamesShop on the forum? It's worth writing/reading about, even if it's garbage quality. As a warning to others who might be interested. Although for $16 USD, potential customers already have an idea of the quality.
The white pieces are done, well sort of. Need to let it dry and sand it down to flatten it out then refelting them. What I did was fill them up with concrete filler, place leads and top it off with sawdust/glue pasta.
When I'm done I'll do a review of the Dubrovnik plastic set.

@ShelbyLohrman I know I brought this up before, have you reconsidered possibly bringing back vintage, pocket-size, (wallet, travel) slotted chess sets? Non-magnetic.
When I first brought it up 4 months ago, HoS (and their various entities online) had a cheapo pleather version in stock for $45. They have since sold out everywhere. I had kept my eye on them. They did not go on sale or clearance. They sold out at full price. Which shows there is a market for it.
Just wondering. If anything I'll purchase a used one.

Pawnerai,
The main reason I do not make one of these is my friend David Weinstock had made them in the past. Here is a link to his site: The ChessMate® – Mindspan Labs (thinket.com)
Hope this helps.

Yeah, those are magnetic though. Not slotted like the vintage ones. I may have to just go vintage. And send HoS an eMail to see if they plan on restocking. Thanks!

Will there be a more cream colored version of the new ultimates or is the appliance white it?
BattleDuck,
Good Question. Currently, we are only working on the appliance white. Here is my new problem...the manufacturer went and jacked with the prices again. I am now paying 32% more for the same darn item. ARGHHHH!!!
I am doing my best to keep prices at a reasonable level, but it seems like the production costs of everything from overseas is going up a minimum of 23-45%. It is crazy! Look for prices to go up across the board with everyone as they re-stock. This holiday season is going to be tough on everyone.
Thanks
Shelby
thanks

I agree, while David makes a great magnetic set, there is a void in the slotted variety. I wish someone would come out with a durable yet very playable slotted pocket set. The last one I had I returned because the pieces were not going in the slots properly. Actually, my old postal set with 5 or 6 boards and pieces held up rather nicely and I can still use it although it is 48 years old. It was made up of cardboard but it was also very durable. The USCF sold replacement pieces too.
When Shelby talked about 15k mold, is there any gradation of quality in mold? Like you said, those guys in Slovenia would have to sell tons of sets to make profit so it is not unlikely they use the cheapest mold as possible. Is there such a thing as cheap mold?
@mr P I have already made pictures, intending to make a review out of it. Already bought materials for filling it but still doubting about the weights. Been looking for the flat round leads that are still used in sets from India, but can't find any. High likely I will end up buying those fishing leads, making molds on my own and gonna make them myself. I keep postponing that project as melting leads outside when it's winter here now is not really tempting
