Not really looking. just out of curiosity really.
Magnetic chess pieces
I'm curious to know with all these sites that offer special orders if they'd make you a magnetic set. Say like you could get a magnetic lardy set or a magnetic fierce knight set for example. That would be cool beans for sure.
Unless you get a set and take out the weights and replace it with magnets. This would be an option if you want to DIY your own magnetic set.
If this set ever comes available again I'm going to try ebonizing and magnetizing it.

Yeah that would be a good option. I would see about using RIT fabric dyes. I used Tangerine Orange to color the hand guards of my M92 PAP AK-47 and it turned out quite awesome. Also food coloring is a good option to dye color into wood.
I'll have to look into that. I was going to try Indian ink or a gel stain. I've always wanted to use a gel stain. I've used a liquid stain and boiled linseed oil.
That would work. Do a Ebonized set and Tung oil set. I don't know if a laquer or such would go over the oil though. I've worked with wood but most of my finishing was the linseed oil or stain & polyurethane.
How come no one sells magnetic chess pieces by themselves? I know you could DIY it by getting an unweighted set and using a forstner bit and 3/8" to 1/4" magnets. Yet you'd think with all the magnetic sets floating around someone would sell a set.
