Maple Burl & Ebony board ...

Thanks
. I am happy the black squares have a matte finish. The lacquered black pieces of these GM sets can be a bit much. I have been doing a lot of problem solving on this board over the last couple days and I was worried the burl might be a bit distracting (which it is not).
They look great, Ron! I find a very interesting combination is a Soviet GM on a green and maple board. Sorry I don't have a picture of the complete set on the board, but you get the idea.

VERY sharp Chuck !! I like the contrast with the green squares. I think 2.5" is the perfect size for these sets. Those board/boxes they came with are really sad in comparison.

Arlindo has some great shots of Sov sets on green RF boards. Very sharp indeed. I agree, 2.5" is a very good size for these sets.
I'm not a big fan of green squares. Sorry cgrau; I recognise that there is an aesthetic there that I am missing, but I am missing it. But that hand-spryaed yellow and black with the soviet-era pieces is retro-cool, and you don't even have to remember what the soviet union was to get it.
Ronbo, I've been looking at your matte black and maple board for a while, and something just isn't right about it. Love the quiet dignity of the flat black, love the vibrance of the maple burl, but the 2 go together like... toothpaste and dishwater? I dunno, just something off a bit. maybe its just me.
LOL! I like the analogy. Glad to hear not everyone is the same as me.

Hi All - I needed a black squared board for an up coming set and didn't have one in 2.5" squares so I found this HoS Maple Burl and Ebony board. I think it is GREAT
. I know the Soviet Era set isn't exactly made out of "fine wood" but I think the design makes up for it 100%. All I had before this was 2.25" boards and a HUGE 2.75" one for the Giant Drueke #38 set. Also happy this one has a generous border. Finally the Soviet sets have "breathing room" lol. Thanks for looking
.
