At that price I'm tempted myself, and I have too many chess sets already (I know, you can never have too many chess sets...
). Unless you're trying to pass it off as genuine Soviet era, who really cares how accurate it is? If it's a handsome looking set and you like it, buy it. Of course that attitude is why I have more sets than I know what to do with...
Mikhail Tal set from RoyalChessMall
Wow, great pictures, thanks. What square size do you run these guys on? How is visualisation with playing/analyzing with those fat pawns?
The boards pictured above are 55mm (2.15") size, but they would work equally on 60mm or even 64mm. I like the more crowded look, and in the USSR, when you look at those vintage sets & boards, often the boards are extremely crowded.
Those pawns are chunky, it took a little while for me to wrap my head around those. On the plus side, the pieces are impossible to tip even in rapid games.
Wouldn't then the king base diameter be a bit off at 60mm? Any pictures floating around of this set on a 60mm board?
Thanks for taking the picture. Looks good to me. Pawns still look huge lol.
On the Tal picture the pawns look smaller compared to the minor pieces. Wonder why they choose here to have them the same diameter.

How many chess sets have you got, Baddogno? I've got eleven but I believe I'm now over Chess collector's fever!

Funny; I just did a quick count of the ones I can see and I've got 11 too. Of course I have a Square Off Swap coming maybe in June and there may be one or two more squirrelled around the house somewhere.
Hi theendgame3...
As requested, here's some pictures of my chess sets, etc.

If you'd like any further info regarding any of these sets, boards, or clocks, just say so!

Amazing collection. I especially love the clock collection and the Beth Harmon coffee mug. Is the board from the second picture from Chess Empire? Also could you talk about the colorful clock in the second picture? I am unfamiliar with it.
the endgame3 wrote "Wow a great collection of clocks and a great room too. Beautiful sets- I also noticed your "Attack with Mikhail Tal" book!!!. Thanks for your time sharing your passion."
You're welcome, theendgame3. That was very observant of you to correctly identify the "Attack with Mikhail Tal" book - congrats!

Paul, that's an incredible set of huge chess pieces in your membership photo. Some of them look to be at least 10 inches high! I see the bishop has a distinctive Russian style. Very nice!
Yes, the board in the second photo is from the Chess Empire. I thought it was very reasonably priced for a "pedestal" type board.
The clock is the blitz version of the common plastic cased Yantar clocks that were the next series after the black carbolite Yantars. It originally had a white plastic case as did most of the plastic Yantars but people are now doing terrific paint jobs in a variety of colors on the white Yantars so I bought a red one so I could swap the original white case of the blitz clock for the red case as the white case didn't clean up as nice as I wanted. I then gifted the "new" white cased clock to a chess friend who didn't even have a clock so he was happy enough with it. There's only one other person I know of that has one of these "blitz" version Yantars and his name is Dr. Holger Langer and he lives in Germany. He has a fabulous collection of pieces, boards, clocks, etc. Here is a link to his site...

I consider myself very, very lucky to have noticed my Yantar blitz clock for sale by a person who lives in the Ukraine but he didn't know anything about the origins of the clock. It's a late sixties or seventies clock I'm pretty sure and I doubt if there were many made as you sure don't see them posted by even people in Eastern Europe. Here's a couple of better pictures of this clock and a regular Yantar...

Sigh.... I'm afraid so, SamiBlue 116. The board arrived earlier today and I got the Capablanca pieces about 12 days ago. But maybe it's just a mild case of "March Madness" !
Wish me a speedy recovery!!

What do you think of this version? Seems way cheaper than the EraRetro and the NOJ ones. But is it accurate?

I wish I didn't see this thread. I really don't need to be buying another set right now. LOL
Thanks for the link Duvupov! I'm excited to receive mine!
