So Chuck, how did this set play on the 2.375" board last night?

So Chuck, how did this set play on the 2.375" board last night?
It was great. If anything, the pieces could be a little heavier-weighted, but it was quite good to play with.
The set looks good on that board and square size.
I see the King base is 1.69" diameter. That is 75% of a 2.25" square.
Do you think this set looks cramped on a 2.25" square?

Great vids, Mike. Especially pairing the Soviet set with Sousa and American martial music. Thanks for posting.

You're welcome Chuck, I'm glad you enjoyed them

Beautiful Chuck, what clock is that, it looks like the one I have, bought back in the 80's ? Very nice setup. I also like the board, sweet. Thanks for sharing.

Chuck, a dream set, and the general chess environment. A beauty, and above all, I feel the chess ambience - nobless and wonderful taste.
"Constant dripping wears away the stone" or "Water dripping day by day wears the hardest rock away."
Finally, a great replica of a Soviet set! ( in this seller). And for the price, a good, good bargain.
I say again: why invent what is invented?
Just one thing: could not have kept the yellowness varnish (original!) of the white pieces ?
Now:
regarding Soviet sets, only two desires of true replicas: the USSR Cham 61 Tal set, and the Soviet "de luxe" Tal - Botvinnik, Smyslov Bot-Bot-Petrosian, and some USSR Championships.
It is not the Set Karpov-Kamsky Elista, nor the Set that I, you or other guys of this forum have (with Plastic, or Wood heads) or sell on Etsy. It's a unic set, with Knights similar to Jaques, with Pawns of elegance and incredible perfection.
I could say that the Elista set ( Moscow Ol 1994), and the GM Soviet Great Master that I have, are true soviet sets, but "by-products", "degeneration" of the Set that I dream, and all Soviet chess collector want. The set that I talk was only used in World Chess Championship ans a very restict URSS Chess final Championship. I will write here about these as desired soviet chess pieces
The 1º Kasparov-Karpov Set that's another story. Made exclusively for this match in Moscow it's was stolen after the match. Keeping characteristics of the Soviet sets, these pieces are clearly inspired in the Jaques. The Bishops have no cross-color bulbs in miter, and so to the Queens.
Seeking for years decent pictures of these pieces of the Match Karpov vs. Kasparov, 1984-85 "The Aborted Match", and nothing.
I think that Kadun as a close replica, but at forbidden prices.

Good points Arlindo.
Why reproduce this set? I think the answer lies in practicalities. It is a simple design. It is ubiquitous, and there are many pictures available making it easier to replicate the design.
Why buy such a set when so many originals abound? I think I have seven or eight of them if you throw in the partial sets. I'm used to a more weighted set, and find it easier to play with. The only unweighted set I like to play with is the unweighted NOJ 1950 Dubrovnik. The historical outweighs the lack of weights.
The coloring. Ah yes, why they didn't antique this one is a mystery. It should duplcate that rich, gold patina. It would look good in a red and black option, just for history's sake.
The '61 Soviet Championship set. Ahhhhh....
The "Deluxe." Ahhhhh....
Kadun I'll have to check out again. Their prices were almost halved the last time I looked.
Many thanks for your comments!
Thanks, SM. Yes, it's ebonised.
