What is the most difficult/advanced chess book you know of?

Dvoretsky's Analytical Manual is the hardest book I ever attempted to read. I had to give up in the "Immersion" chapter because I felt I was drowning in variations. For me, it was like chess waterboarding.

However, I'm sure it's really useful at IM and GM level.

Yes, Dvoretsky's Analytical Manual has to rank high on such a list. I'd also nominate Aagaard's Grandmaster Preparation – Calculation, Kotronias's The Grandmaster Battle Manual and Aagaard's Grandmaster Preparation – Strategic Play.

Ziyatdinov's "GM-RAM".  256 difficult positions---no answers.

Thats what makes them so lousy. If you can understand them and they make sense they are well written. If you think they are so hard to comprehend its not a poor reader but a lousy author. Just my opinion.
