Best Opening Move


To much variety in what the other side can do for there to be an absolute best. 1.e4 and 1.d4 is the eternal battle. 1.nf3, 1.c4 are next level down with 1.nf3 being the most flexible, but declines the advantage of the first move by not defining the type of game. 1.c4 can transpose into a 1.d4 opening. 1.b3, 1.g3 are uncommon but not bad, just less initial aggressiveness than the central pawn pushes. What criteria do you use to define best from opening moves? Sharpness and traps; solidness and endgame pawn structure?
