My Dubrovnik Set On My Drueke

Thanx guys.... CHESS USA had a few in stock as the wait is real long for the Dubrovnik sets and they had also some 1986 Open Drueke boards... not sure if they still have any... be prepared to shell out $750 or so

Well, in that case: Here's mine. On a Drueke. :)

(4"K, brown-stained maple).
Izmet - looks supercool in black!
I think the brown stain looks better IMO. The black stain might appeal to some. Who knows as everyone has their likes & dislikes. It is one fantastic set IMO in any case. There is no way I can afford one unless they send production to India & it comes in under 200 USA dollars. It is a great looking set nevertheless!!! I wish they had a plastic version availible in the USA chess stores..!!!

Yes, the knights make the set for me. But too intricate and you have trouble keeping them clean (if you play with them) or dusted (if you display them), and if the knight carving is too delicate, they can be quite fragile as well.

ChessUSA has a Dubrovnic 1950 set in stock (US$500) and the big Drueke board (US$250). I have the board (bought long ago), but not the set.
ChessUSA also has some "Velites Staunton" Indian-made sets at more reasonable prices, and these are similar in style to the Dubrovnic set. In these sets, the kings and queens have an opposite color cap like the bishops. Also, the king has a cross cap instead of a religion-neutral cap. The knights are diffferent in that they are in the more traditional eastern European style with downward facing heads.

Welcome to the club!!
Are your dark pieces brown stain as from your picture they could be a black stain?

Yes, wonderful Stauton.
This Dubrovnik set is made in Slovenia by NOJ
But this Dubrovnik ins'r the real. It´s a wonderful replica close to the Olimpic original. Yes Fischer favorite set is like the Pics, but the real, the Serial Dubrovnik is so rare that worths thousands and thousands of dollars.
With the chess pieces of the Havana 66 Ol., one of the most expensive Staunton sets in the world! 10,000-20,000?
Yes the dubrovnik NOJ is superb, but the original is A diamond! Look at the Knights!

Well, I'm a poor guy and I have a plastic one!
